Why did Teenage Dream take such a horrible Metacritic score?

It got 52 on metacritic which is less than any Meghan Trainor album :rip: and generally less than 90% of the mainstream pop albums. Why is that? :awkney:

My opinion is that the production is a bit generic in some songs and it has some cringeworthy lyrics on Dressin' Up or mostly Peacock. But overall it's a REALLY solid pop album without any fillers. It has some incredible lyrics in it (The One That Got Away for example),the melodies are really reallly memorable and great and it's catchy but not really shallow. It's not a masterpiece but it deserves A LOT more than being in the low 50s imo

When I listened to the album in full I didn't hear much that stood out or made it a great Pop album to me. I thought a lot of the individual songs sounded too similar and were not memorable. Honestly, while I don't necessarily dislike the album I personally can understand why it would get a lower score, especially when compared with other albums that exist in the world today.

Maybe because it is bubblegum basic pop and too catchy that the critics thought it was not memorable at all

Anyway, it remains her best album. It's one of the few that I listen and enjoy from start to finish. The One That Got Away is amazing!

I feel like critics are really harsh on POP music

I know but imo OOTB is not really that great (it deserved more than 47 obviously though)

Yeah, look at ARTPOP and Born To Die. Both amazing albums, but with low metacritic score (62 and 61 respectively), while Honeymoon (more indie and rock than BTD) has 78.

Bullshit tbh :awkney:

Exactly my point. When something is shamelessly pop and not too serious musically and lyrically they bash it.:awkney: Electra Heart too (57 on metacritic)

President Trump

I think some of your songs have to be boring and uncatchy to be considered artistic aka lemonade
