A few months ago, I really got into their music--and why not it's uber-catchy, fun, energetic, pop music? Nevertheless, as I researched today when I could expect new music from them, I was shocked to discover that the band disbanded over a year ago following the death of member Simone Battle. Currently, I find myself a tear-eyed mess watching their old interviews. Simone did such a great job at masking her depression may she rest in peace. Looking through her solo material, I discovered this LGBT-jam in which she references no other than Gaga herself. I'm heartbroken at the conditions of society that pushed her over the edge of suicide. Her kind, intelligent, talented soul will be missed. *Peep the Gaga reference at ~1:30* Also, I'm interested to see if there are any other G.R.L. stans on here. JDi 1,495 Posted June 16, 2016 Share Posted June 16, 2016 at first I thought G.R.L. is the reference (to G.U.Y.) ...that's the most stupid stereotype. nothing hurt her career more. even her fans can't seem to grasp how a straight man can enjoy Gaga and it's so weird because she's the only female pop star that a man doesn't have to be gay to admire. can you imagine a straight guy who "really likes" i.e. stans for Katy Perry or Britney or anyone. sure, they might find them sexually appealing but Gaga is the only one who offers more. she doesn't have to play the pop diva figure which is what makes any strong woman a gay """"icon"""". not necessarily. only someone uncertain of his sexuality will say Gaga is not a sex symbol just because gays seem to be the only people comfortable with regarding her as such. in 2009-2011 she was sexier than any other pop star besides Rihanna (who I personally don't find that sexy... sure she's beautiful and exotic and all legs but she kind of acts like she doesn't like guys which is a turn-off.) also, Gaga has had lot of straight male friends which has had an impact on her personality and men usually find that sexy in a woman because she feels like a challenge. and she's not even the least conventionally beautiful. Katy Perry and Ariana for example can look really pretty and polished but in my opinion they've got worse facial features and are more likely to seem rather ugly without makeup which is something a guy always considers when looking at famous women. not to mention Gaga can be down to earth and a badass at the same time. it's rare and everyone likes that. most alpha males would love to be with a rockstar superchick and she's the one that feels most like it out of the current pop girls. and why does it have to be about sex? like I said, she feels pretty down with the guys and you can easily think of her as a gal pal. and lastly, no matter how much you like her music, it's ridiculous to not recognize she's a great performer. even if it's only every once in a while and you don't follow her every appearance there's nothing gay about enjoying an old school showbiz performance. it's rock n' roll. that's why most rockstars praise her performance skills. ...yet everyone finds it perfectly normal for a straight guy to say Beyoncé slays (nevermind clueless about the fact slay is gay slang.) and it just doesn't make sense. you'll probably take this as a little extreme but to me every guy who doesn't just say that (because it's what everyone's been doing) but actually means it basically confesses his homosexual tendencies. people just don't understand some basic psychological reflexes that make you like certain figures. there's this great quote from Bowie "I think Mick Jagger would be astounded and amazed if he realized that to many people he is not a sex symbol, but a mother image."
