Wouldn't intelligent human being sympathize with other human beings who just lost their child instead of talking **** about them and their parenting, without knowing anything about it, and worrying more about what happens to predator. As you can see from above, they are killed all the time, even when they didn't harm anyone.

Do you have any children? Did you not understand that father was right there with him and there was only "no swimming" sign?

A parent should know better; anyone should actually, not even a parent. Don't put children near unknown water. And the life of an animal should be valued similar to the life of a human, both are compassionate creatures with the ability to feel and love, etc.. It is unfortunate that these beautiful creatures are killed often because they are "in the way" of humans.

For those confused about why he was uneaten, alligators and crocodiles will often hide their prey underwater sometimes to eat it at a later time, it's possible this is what occurred with the child.

For those of you upset about the search teams/police killing the alligators, this is actually a practice that could prevent future generations of alligators from being brave enough from entering Human areas; not because they will "remember" what happened to the killed gators, but because alpha predators can easily evolve to be afraid of humans and human activity, if the ones that are brave enough to enter urban-ish areas are killed off, that only leaves the more timid ones in the wild to reproduce.

Obviously this isn't something that occurs overnight but it's something that occurs time after time when humans enter a new ecosystem, animals that previously had no or little direct contact with Humans will treat us just like any other animal until they have a reason not to (aka being killed off).

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with what the authorities are doing (I suspect they will stop killing the gators now that they've found the body), but at the very least the alligators need to be relocated.

it's honestly disgusting how you put all the blame on parents, without knowing the full story. There were "no swimming" signs ONLY and they weren't swimming. The family is from Nebraska and you can't expect all the tourists to know about dangerous waters in Florida.

I posted the link, check the other thread about the details.

I don't really care about the damn alligator, it killed a baby.

That alligator is a living form too, just like that baby used to be. Animals deserve to live and be respected. The alligator just did what they are supposed to do if they see/feel a prey around them.

Can somebody explain me how could he get into a lake full of alligators? Or weren't these alligators supposed to be there? Or were they domesticated?

No, there aren't domesticated alligators.

The more it rains, the more alligators roam and move into different lakes, ponds, lagoons...

Disney calls to have the gators removed when they are aware of their presence, wildlife authorities still have to be able to locate the gator though.

Alligator snatched the boy from his father's arms and then drowned him. For some reason it didn't eat him.

It will probably be killed, they already killed 4 of them, looking for the remains of the boy.

The alligator did not snatch the boy from his father's arms.  The child was playing at the water's edge and the parents were nearby on the beach.

Are you an unable to read? The father was literally right beside the child on the beach when the gator snatched him. The dad then subsequently wrestled with the alligator to try and pry his child from his jaws. This was reported by the father himself and numerous eyewitnesses around the scene.

Also I truly can't at some the people in thread acting like a gator who just killed a child deserves some kind of sanctuary. What the fck are y'all smoking? Human life > animal life every time in a situation such as this. All indications was that this was an unprovoked attack. That gator was an obvious thread and I'm glad he was eradicated.

They'll kill it because they don't care. They already killed 5 looking for the child

Human life = animal life if you ask me. In my experience, I've never had a single problem with an animal while I've had nearly nothing but problems with people. That's just me though and I know that's a very unpopular opinion, which I'm ok with. Though, I don't understand why you're saying it's an "unprovoked attack"? That's a weird way to word it...Gators are huge apex predators and this one saw the kid as a prey item. It's just what they do? It's not like it was a deranged and aggressive beast, it's just an animal doing what it does. Trying to find a meal and survive.

No one is at fault other than the people who build this stuff where their habitats used to be and then they don't take proper precautions to make sure these tourists know to stay away from water that might have these animals in it. Them and the people who get too close or even feed wildlife so they spend more time around humans making situations like this more frequent.

I don't know why this "human life vs. animal life" debate is even coming up tbh. Not to be too blunt or insensitive but the kid isn't going to be brought back with the gator's death and if the kids' parents had a means to kill him/her at that moment to save their child's life I doubt anyone in their right mind would be against that. Members expressing sympathy towards the animals being killed are people who don't understand what seems to be a revenge killing of an creature doing what it's instincts tell it to do.

That's really unfortunate...but a sad truth is that it's best that this one is taken out and all of the others relocated. God forbid it attacks again...these absolutely beautiful animals can't take all of these attacks that do nothing but demonize them in the public eye. Sadly, they don't listen to reason so we have to do our best to manipulate their numbers down to the behavior and location of individual animals. It's hard, next to impossible, to try and conserve their numbers and habitats when people view them as "child eating, blood thirsty monsters" when they're just predators doing what predators do. They don't kill to kill, they kill to eat and survive. You can't tell them that people are off limits because we're just another animal to them and that'll never change.

Spoiler

And it shouldn't tbh. We are animals. We're part of the foodchain. Usually at the top but if we put ourselves in the situation to be prey to another predator then you can't be surprised when we're hurt or killed for it. Circle of life. No matter how hard we try to put ourselves into a delusional state of mind, we're not above nature, we're part of it.

Long story long, this kid's death could've been avoided with more caution and clarity on Disney's end and that's about it. You can't demonize an apex predator for hunting and you can't blame the parents for not knowing "no swimming" means "stay away from the water, there might be alligators". At this point, these debates serve absolutely no purpose aside from getting everyone pissed off at everyone else. Let the kid rest. I hope his parents find peace and I hope these animals' reputation isn't too tarnished by this unfortunate event.

You've got to consider that many here are young males who are years and years away from even thinking about the possibility of becoming a parent. One day, some of them might understand the overwhelming love that parents have for their child.
