Although I've never stayed at the Grand Floridian resort, I've visited it many times.  My fiance and I usually stay at Saratoga Springs or Old Key West resorts.  

Anyway, while I do agree that the area is small, I do believe the parents could have prevented this horrific tragedy if they had read the "no swimming" signs.  But even if they didn't notice the signs, why would you allow your child to be wading in a body of water at night, in Florida, where alligators could be present?  I'm very well aware that unfortunate accidents happen, but why take that chance?  

My heart goes out to the parents and the child's loved ones as I'm sure they must be absolutely devastated by this tragedy.  This is a horrible way for a person to die, let alone a little, two-year old boy.

i mean, disneyworld is huge, maybe they should enlist like lifeguards or water watchers during events that take place near areas like this?

I know I already commented but this is just so genuinely terrifying. I can't even imagine it... I feel so much for the family. Alligators scare the living **** out of me

This is what I thought... I've never been there so I don't really know but the Floridians here make it sound like it's a normal/known thing that there are alligators about, so shouldn't there be someone keeping watch?

It's devastating, indeed.  I can't imagine the pain those poor parents must be feeling right now.  My heart goes out to them.

It's definitely a known thing. You either know for certain there are alligators about or you have reasonable suspicion that there could be. I think one part of the issue is that Floridians who post no swimming might be assuming that people know that means there is dangerous wildlife and not to get close to the water at all. It's more like don't get near the water. I thought for sure this is what the sign meant everywhere in the country but apparently that's not the case.

Edit: Apparently his father jumped in after him and tried prying the alligator's jaws open.

"No swimming" is vague. 

The signs should read "DANGER DO NOT ENTER" with an alligator outline slapped on it for good measure.

Anyway, there really is no one to blame in this horrific situation. The child was playing a foot from the water's edge, on the beach, barely inches into the water when the alligator grabbed him. We now know the father actually wrestled with the gator and suffered some serious injuries himself. He was unfortunately not successful in trying to save his son. So please, do not blame the parents as they did nothing wrong. Disney also has done nothing wrong. This is simply a freak accident.
