   The point is, a man did this - if not with a gun he could've attacked in many other ways, he could've used explosives, he could've set the place on fire, he could've just rammed his car into the club and there are countless other ways he could've caused mass harm.

Doing meth is a hobby for some. Doesn't make it a good one  I always wondered what even people enjoy about shooting guns? You're either killing something, or destroying a target or something. It's downright primitively aggressive.

 

and so you're arguing that since we don't know if banning people from purchasing anymore firearms and decreasing the amount in the publics hands will absolutely for SURE Decrease the amount of gun violence (violence brought about from people who buy guns), we might as well do nothing and keep them legal and accessible cause were just, unsure....? I don't get this.

   No, I'm saying we do know that it won't. Ultimately banning guns means we've banned an instrument that can be used for harm. Swords, hammers, lighters, cars, crossbows, knives, hedge clippers, fireworks, baseball bats, razor blades, etc. There are an infinite amount of objects that can and will be used in violent crime cases and banning guns isn't going to be the end all solution - however we can't ban every single object that can be used in a violent matter.

   Even if we do ban guns than that just means we have taken away legal guns - the large majority of the guns used in violent crimes are illegal guns anyway and there is no way to prevent illegal guns from getting into the country. We have 2 countries bordering us, and if illegal drugs are already being smuggled over from Mexico than you just add an illegal gun trade.

  Look at prohibition of alcohol as an example - when alcohol was banned it didn't stop people from drinking it just created a expansive black market and that black market is what let organized crime such as the mafia rise into existence. By banning guns we might be opening our doors to a repeat of prohibition. If guns are legal than the government can at least try and control and regulate it - if they're all illegal than it becomes a free for all.

  There has been no link that banning guns will reduce violent crimes - gun bans in other countries have not done much to reduce violent crimes, in fact in a few cases the rates rose to higher numbers than before bans were inplace.

  I don't like guns and I absolutely do not support gun ownership - but there is much more to this issue than simply taking guns away. We have to use examples from other countries and our own history to use to make these decisions.

Fair enough. But I'd like to know how these countries stack up to the US in terms of instances of mass shootings. We have more frequent mass shootings than any other country don't we?

  We're the 3rd most populous country in the world only behind China and India, so it gets tricky. We have the most mass shootings out of any country, however that is just in raw numbers. In Europe - Switzerland, Norway and Finland all have higher rates of deaths due to mass shootings per capita. So despite us having more in pure numbers, they all have more in relation to the size of their population.
