A Thought...

As Many People Know, I live in the UK. When the dreadful news about the heartbreaking attacks in Orlando reached the UK, it was a bright Sunday morning, now as it approaches the End of Monday, I've had a long time to think about what was going through the shooters minds, and to really think about the tragedy that occurred yesterday, tragically cutting 50 beautiful lives short, with some of the known victims as young as 20 years of age. 

About 2 hours, a devastating thought struck me, which broke me whilst I was on a bus, in front of my peers,

A lot of the parents who found out today that there child has been killed, may also of found out they were a member of the LGBT community,

Since then I've looked on Twitter and seen other people having the same thought, and this photo brought tears to my eyes.

Imagine how many of their families heard about the shooting, and had a sigh of relief that their kid wouldn't be anywhere near there. Then, they realize they haven't heard from them in a few hours.

Or even worse: the never-answered question whether your kid was there because of friends who are gay, or because he/she/etc was gay himself.

This is what I've been thinking about a lot especially since I'm not out to my family.

I am out to my family & have been for many years now & even tho I live in Indiana...  My mom still called(a couple times) to make sure I was alright!

In 1973 the exits to the UpStairs Lounge (a gay bar) in New Orleans were sealed, and the building was set on fire. Thirty two gay men died, a tragedy nearing that of the Pulse shooting in Orlando. The saddest part was what happened after the fire. Bodies went unclaimed because family members were too ashamed to acknowledge the fact that their sons were gay. Bodies went into a mass grave, because people didn't want to identify their "sexual deviant" family and friends. A vigil for the victims of the fire was met with criticism. The investigation of the crime went no where. The press and public largely ignored the fire.

It's so different in 2016.

The family members who are collecting the bodies of their loved ones aren't doing so in shame. They have the support of their community. Any mourner who didn't know their son was gay will have resources available to them. There will be no mass grave.

You have to remember your history to put the present into context. We live in a good time, in spite of the bloodshed.

I broke down after hearing about this shooting. What the **** is wrong with this world we failed as a human race. How hard is it to be kind and loving?!?!?!? Makes me sick and angry. It pissed me off when I went out yesterday and  I didn't see any flags lowered. I was like wtf? They do it for every other shooting. Idk if it's because I live in a conservative county or what but I want to see peaceful marches throughout this country to mourn of not only this shooting but all shootings and victims of gun violence and I want the marches to embrace love and kindness and remind this sick ****ing world that there is good in it and we will fight till the end for it! ❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
