The fact that this wouldn't be a big deal if it were a man and a woman (and I don't believe for a second that people would take offense, or at least not the same people posting here) shows that there is some level of bigotry (even if it's just internalized heteronormatitivity) present, and I just wanted to write something about that to make people think about their reaction, that's all. I'm flaming gay and that picture still get's me surprised. I go to the clubs every week and make out with my friends and watch them make out with one another because that's the CONTEXT for it. Here I am, really somber and reading about the victims, and what's being done, and I'm slightly surprised. I appreciate Madonna's sentiment and I get she may be highlighting the gunman's reaction in Miami, but to insinuate that people here, on a Lady Gaga forum are bigoted against homosexuals is plain ridiculous. If you just wanted to make people think, then I also don't think your language is very nice either "You gotta laugh at people here basically reproducing the reaction the shooter had"

Well, I get that, that's exactly why I wrote about internalized heteronormative ideology. Public display of blatant homosexuality is only appropriate in the context that ideology provides, whether it be a gay pride parade or a gay club. I think that shows that our culture still isn't as tolerant as it claims to be. 8 hours ago, SMILE2NE1 said: to insinuate that people here, on a Lady Gaga forum are bigoted against homosexuals is plain ridiculous. You wanna focus on that word, fine, but I still prefer internalized heteronormativity 'cause it takes the accusational edge off. I also had a definite reaction to the picture, but while reacting I checked myself and thought: "Wait, I shouldn't have this reaction at all. This is true pride. This is true tolerance." Agreed though about my post maybe not communicating my thoughts perfectly, but I think it's pretty clear if people don't zoom in on one or two sentences to find some ill will

DrewStevens 5,249
Now I see why this has 5 pages She means well, but imo it's not the right time to be provocative. There's no need to be ashamed or prudent but after all many innocent people died in an horrific way. It's hard for the LGBT community but it's harder for their families and friends, the people who knew who they were besides being LGBT. She probably didn't think much about it and meant no harm, but the backlash is justified and expected. Sometimes you have to put yourself in other people's shoes before expressing yourself about their suffering.
Snow 1,582
Well atleast here in Europe it seems to be a thing now for gay couples to change their profilephoto to them kissing. So I certainly see nothing wrong with that pic, its great. Maybe its just a case of weird sence of prudence in US or something... especially as M also posted other wonderful things and words relating to this horrendous incident. Besides there shouldn't be any doubt that it came from an honest plays of grief and support . She has always been from The very start a very very vocal lqbt supporter, much more than maybe any pop star (especially in The 80's). Even more so than Gaga.
