If this is true, Katy bought it. No way she has has enough influence on pop culture to be honored, but then again, it's MTV so..... And also, I was hoping Gaga would receive it, and would use it as a platform to launch her next album.

If the purpose is to honor an artist who's videos have been creative and inspiring and different from the norm, then lady Gaga for sure deserves it before Rihanna or Katy Perry. Rihanna's videos are ok and Katy's are as well however the world can't deny that Gaga set the bar high for videos.

I agree, before Lady Gaga, what did Katy release? I Kissed a Girl? Oh yeah that's innovative. And Rihanna? SOS? :gaycat:

Rihanna had released Disturbia before Gaga arrived, if anything you could say that Gaga and others were inspired by her :sis:

yeah but Rihanna was longer in industry so I can see why would they want to award her before Gaga. i don't see a single reasn for awarding Katy before Gaga tho

You can't remember the last time Gaga dropped a memorable music video right (that means she has some) right?

Now go to YouTube or vevo and pick out one of Katy's memorable music videos let's see:wtf::wtf::wtf:

I agree with you to some extent, Katy worked really hard her last era and people need to stop shading her because they are pressed or something. But honestly her videos last era were ****ing awful, the TD era videos were so much better, I love her music but I've never played those videos more than once, I think we all agree that Applause and G.U.Y. are way better, so Gaga deserves it more if we are talking about quality.

We have two selves. One the world needs us to be, compliant, and the shadow. Ignore it and life is forever suffering.

Hmm...I disagree that Katy should get it. A Video Vanguard Award, I would assume takes into account the videography of the artist should it not? Katy makes fun, catchy, radio-friendly songs and her success is great on those accounts, but the only video I really "remember" is California Girls. No other video has ever captured me and forced me to remember it. I don't think that represents what a Video Vanguard Award contender should be. Even other fanbases are agreeing that Gaga's videography (even though some argue that her last album doesn't live up to previous era videos) is considerably more memorable and appreciated by the general public.

In the event that this is true, congrats to katy, but I just don't think it's a deserved award.

Rihanna still wasn't huge by the time just dance came out. Lol and Gaga made music videos that told full stories and had a lot of dialogue and story structure. I'm not saying she invented that but a lot of the videos changed after she did papaparazzi, telephone and bad romance.

Well Deserved.

+ why other members here talking about Gaga and her Grammy's & Golden Globe awards?

This topic & this award has nothing to do with Gaga at least not yet.

stay...

I mean let's take a look:

Paparazzi - intriguing plot, amazing visuals and premise (supposedly foresaw/predicted her own career and even hip injury), the first video in recent years to generate much buzz

Bad Romance -   :firega:enough said

Telephone - a cultural/phenomenal event. Heavily anticipated and was talked about for months, featured Beyonce, included tons of pop culture references from iconic films to video games

Alejandro - controversial and yet with amazing imagery

Born This Way - another visual juggernaut

And yet with all this, even some of her own fans would think it's too early for her :toofunny: I mean this is the Gaga that was the first artist to have two nominations for the video of the year in the same year and won a grammy for best short form video for one of those nominations

Katy has several hits. But I don't seem to recall other artists saying that they have been inspired by her videos or whatever. Gaga has several younger artists calling her an inspiration. After Telephone, critics have been saying she was the only one who could reach the MJ-Madonna stratosphere in terms of videos

:saladga:

don't forget my favorite video, applause. :nick:
