Let's be honest, it's been an awful while since Gaga last released a great memorable music video, it wouldn't make any sense to give her that award now. On the other hand, Katy's last era was extremely consistent when it came to its singles and videos, so I'm not gonna act dumb and pretend like it doesn't make sense to award her.

I think Taylor Swift could have also snatched that, but she just finished her 1989 era, so promo-wise, Katy is the one who needs to come back into the limelight to prepare the field of her comeback, so once again it makes sense.

When you think about it, the VMAs have always been a joke. Don't criticize water for being wet, it's all promotional strategy and we've always known. Most of the real best videos that would actually deserve that award don't even make it to the nominations.
