Fans dragging fans, my thoughts...

This is a comment that I made on another post but I really think it expresses very well the current situation with those called "fake fans" or whatever they're called by other fans.

Being a fan is not about licking her ass, it's about following her through her trip. I've known many fans from 2008 that left her when ARTPOP happened because they couldn't see Gaga doing that and they just didn't like it but they did go to the artRAVE and still love her somehow. And I have also seen many new fans from the ARTPOP era that "omg i love her to death". I think the first case is more a real fan than the second (they're just examples!!!), because Gaga wasn't at her best during ARTPOP and she knows that, they still love her, but they didn't like that era. Would you stan her if she stopped making music forever and decided to become an full-time actress? I wouldn't, because I loved something from her that kept me with her, but she left it. And these new fans from the ARTPOP era... i don't know because I've been here since Just Dance, but I don't see the "new fans" knowing Gaga as much as older fans, and becoming a fan with the worst product the artist's had doesn't let you appreciate how precious her past works were (i'm not saying ARTPOP was that bad, but it's an example). I didn't like CTC, I didn't like ARTPOP at first, like only 50% of the album, and I'm still getting new collectible things everyday and I can't stop loving her because I know how is it like being an artist and I love her beliefs, some people believe in God and I believe in Gaga... I want her to do what she wants and needs to do, but if I don't like some product she's giving, of course I will complain. And I said complain like "i don't like this, I hate this...", not dragging her and say "she's over". CTC really saved her life and career and I can appreciate that, but what I loved from my idol and what made me love her back in the day was the pop product, The Fame-Monster, Born This Way, so it's normal that I feel weird if she's now releasing another jazz album or making alternative music or whatever, it's not the thing I love the most from her. And I'm not here to be told by other fans that I'm a fake fan because "I hated CTC", because that is something no one has the right to judge, and as I said, it doesn't make me stop loving her as an artist and as a human being.

Have you ever heard about the MDNA issue? A friend of mine is 45 and is a Madonna fan since the 80s. He has like hundreds of things, has attended ALL her tours, but Madonna released MDNA and he hated the album because he didn't feel like the album completed her quality standards and it wasn't something that he expected from her. Same happened with Evita. He still loves her, he attended the tour because he loves her, and still got the album. He's been loving the Rebel Heart era and the album and is still a fan, but hates MDNA, does this make him a fake fan after 30 years? I say no.

If I ever have the chance to meet Gaga, i would give her my The Fame vinyl, and tell her: You know why I love this record so much? Because you had the hability to conquer the world with your very first song. I understand that as an artist you need to move on and the trip is never stopping, that's why I'm here yet, but this made me love you and your way of making art and the love you have for it is keeping me here.

and what if we truly loved ARTPOP & C2C, is it hard to understand that some of us actually liked the music/albums?  are we less fans? should i spit on her even when i liked it only because some bitchies were expecting more '09 electropop?

I was talking about that concrete example of fans that left during ARTPOP but still love her somehow and those who came new with ARTPOP. Maybe "the realest fan" is misunderstood because I meant that the fan from 2008 to 2013 knows more than the fan from 2013 to now, let me just edit haha

You know what, it's funny, these fans can clearly just stop following her every move and think of ways to fit into a mold or hinder her growth as an artist. It's a bit selfish of them to dictate what she does with her career.

*I can understand their concern when it comes to sales and impact, for reasons regarding promotion and exposure to extend her artistry, but ultimately, she's going to do her. That's why we liked her in the first place, right?

So what are the other, less tolerant/ open fans trying to say? I suppose it's where they're at.

But... they keep coming back. The process is just ... silly.

I've got to agree with you on that. I wouldn't be surprised if she changes her direction, she's covered a lot of ground, and I can't wait to see her delve into other channels of entertainment and art. I'm here for her journey too, not what I want from her (that's genuinely secondary).

Yes, I also do love partying in moving houses as seen in that one Bacardi tv ad.

I agree, it's an absolute embarrassment that there are members on GGD who believe this site is a constant fan competition, especially considering the questionable parameters that are used to determine the level of "devotion".

However, if you feel that categorizing fans in such a manner is not acceptable, you should probably apply that same reasoning when talking about Gaga's "new" fans, otherwise it might seem biased on your part.

I honestly don't think why a fan has to care about success. American Life flopped so hard and it's one of her best works and it's now really appreciated. One thing is to not like any album because it's about taste, but disliking a project because it's a flop... you should care about the product your idol gives you, not how many other people buy it

I have edited the OP already :) I didn't mean that, sorry. I was trying to say that a fan for 8 years has lived much more Gaga that a fan from the ARTPOP era, so I can understand those old fans that didn't like ARTPOP or CTC because they had better works before (works that they like more because it's about taste). I'm not comparing fans by the time they've been stanning, just making an example of why I do feel that it's just silly to drag a fan that doesn't like a certain project

Gaga needs motivation and support more than ever rn. So instead of complaining about everything she does, we should show our respect and support to her.

Slé! I only didn't like CTC as much as I can love TF or BTW, but of course i really appreciate the album, and her vocals were the best. If she released Paradise then I'd love it even more, because one of the things that really made me a stan was "what? A blond pop bitch actually writting her music and singing live?" Remember that we came from Britney with Blackout and a singer-songwritter really was NEW on the pop world haha

I would be like "Gaga you know I love you more than anything, but please give us LG5 before the jazz record because it's been so long and I miss your gaga side"

Not like "bitch how the **** are you releasing a jazz album? I am leaving, you're over"

I completely feel you... I remember the pop world in 2007 when Britney's "Blackout" was everything and the music video genre was dead. Let alone dance-infused pop music. Gaga absolutely resurrected it all. It's not an overstatement to say that she single-handedly resurrected the pop music genre.

....but... also take this from my 30+ year old perspective. Cheek to Cheek is quite possibly her greatest work. You will find an appreciation for it in time, trust me!

When CTC was released my mom told me: "I am surprised because she's able to do anything, but I like her more when she's more Gaga than classic" Her fav songs are Monster and Edge Of Glory, so I guess it's what I said, she / we are just used to the product Gaga has been giving to us since the beginning and it feels kind of weird to have a completely different product, as if Beyoncé suddenly became an opera singer, her fans wouldn't like it like they like Lemonade

Yeah, being ungrateful isn't really a good way of being progressive. I can understand those who're able to empathize toward's their "fave's" success or lack thereof. It shows concern at the very least (towards what though?). There's a sense of pride and validation that comes with success of who the fans love, and a feeling of shared appreciation and understanding between the fans and the GP? Not sure, but it's a theory.

There's also funding and success  that equals  more promotion, which then translates to hope of expansion of artistry and work. So there's that as well.

There are others who just want her to win, sales and figures equate that on the carts. More recognition, longevity, etc.

It personally irks me that the fan is more concerned and molded by figures and sales, when there's something to be enjoyed right in front of you. I agree with you on that. I think it shows a lack of consistency at the very least (entitlement and lack of appreciation isn't a good look either imo), on the particular kind of fan's part.

I question their reasoning and perspective most of the time. It's like, Do you like her for the right reasons?

*Side comment, how some articulate themselves can be a bit bothersome, imo.

...back to your original point, I agree. It does feel weird to hear our queen of electronic dance pop bops doing jazz. It's super-weird, in fact. But that's also what makes it so brilliant. She doesn't just "attempt it" but she ****ing does it as good as the legends!!! She is a MASTER at jazz vocals! This cannot be understated. She's one of the jazz greats. We are absolutely blessed to learn today that there's another jazz album coming. I'm beyond thrilled.
