Who decides that humans are more valuable than animals?

Humans do.

So in your opinion, they should have tranquilized the gorilla and if it had gotten aggressive and would have killed the boy so be it?  It was the mother's fault for not watching her 4 year old and we call it a day?

That's fricking ridiculous. Zoos have intense procedures for these things that they practice frequently. The carrying out of the plan does not change based on the race of the person.

Oddly enough, Zoos actually have more fair policies in place regarding the safety of a black person's life than some police forces. ;)

Oddly enough, wasn't the rescued boy black?  At least he looked black to me when I was watching the footage on the nightly news last night.

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.

And Tumblr.

Lol I never go on Tumblr because it's a breading ground for backwards and moronic logic like that

Spoiler

Tumblr is only good for one thing and we all know what that is :hor:

Kinda harsh don't you think? The mother had other kids with her and all it takes is a few seconds of focusing on another one of her children for the kid to climb and fall down.

I work with the public and people literally think any public place is a day care for their children. The mother should be charged with child endangerment and have her children take away. It wasn't just he climbed and fell down, didn't he get through like 3 separate things to get to the cage? He could've gotten kidnapped and murdered by the time she realized. Horrible excuse of a mother. The gorilla died because of her negligence.

You're being too harsh. No parent can keep track of all their children simultaneously at any given time.

Taking your eyes of your kids for one moment is a calculated risk, one that any parent has to do if they are ever going to succeed in taking care of their families. This was a freak occurrence. Clearly they have to put some level of trust in the safety of the public locations they visit, otherwise they wouldn't go there to begin with.

You're speaking like someone who has never had to take care of multiple children at once. Bad things happen sometimes. In this case, something really bad happened and I'm sure the mother is more than traumatized.

She should be traumatized. She is a terrible mother.

If she can't take care of all her kids at once them she shouldn't take them all out. I don't have 5 kids but I see people everyday who let their kids wander off and just expect them to be safe and they are bad parents. She is a bad parent. The gorilla is dead and her child could have been dead too. Someone must pay and it should be her. It makes me sick. I have no sympathy for her.

Yikes. You realize the zoo can purchase another gorilla?

Preschoolers and young children do stupid **** all the time. Every parent has had situations where they have taken their eyes off of their child and they have lost them for a couple of minutes, or more.

The mother is just like all parents, in that they can't watch every child every second of every minute. She also trusted that the zoo would have preventative measures in place. The authorities are not going to take children away for situations where there is not negligence....and a consistent pattern of such.

The gorilla died because a little boy, who didnt understand the reality of his actions, had his life saved.

Seeka

As I said before, both parties are at fault. the mother and the zoo.

While I'd hate to say it, humans shouldn't be valued equally as animals. While we are far more intelligent and different from the rest of the animal kingdom, we have screwed up the world to edge of reckoning, and due to the fact we're above the food chain, we're rather unimportant. We hate each other for no apparent reason. We're the main reason why the world is suffering.

While I'm not saying a small child should die for that, I'm not saying that animal lives are worth more than animals. But we certainly need to fix our f*uck ups that we have done. We've done a lot of damage. Animals have done nothing.

From a few witnesses, the boy kept talking about how he wanted to go in the enclosure, and then went under a railing, through a fence/wiring, and then into the pit. Not saying it all couldn't have happened in under a minute, but there's a bit more negligence than people like to admit.

Though, my concensus is this: The boy might not be here today if they didn't act quickly. Silverbacks are very strong and quick, and one false move by the boy, or the sting of a 5-10 minute effective tranquilizer could have triggered the incremental strength to kill this boy. There's no win here, but the boy's life was the priority.
