Christian woman stripped naked and beaten by mob in Egypt

A 70-year-old Christian woman has been stripped naked, beaten and paraded through the streets by a mob of around 300 Muslim men in a village in southern Egypt.

The mob also burned down seven homes belonging to Christian families, according to an unusually outspoken statement issued by the local Orthodox Coptic church, after rumours circulated in the village that a Christian man was having a relationship with a Muslim woman.

The woman who was stripped naked was reported to be the mother of the man involved in the rumoured affair. She has since met with church leaders, the Diocese of Minya and Abu Qirqas said.

The violence is representative of the tensions between the two religions in the province south of Cairo, where extra-marital affairs between Muslims and Christians are strictly taboo.

But it appears the Coptic church has finally had enough of what they say is unfair treatment from the authorities over such cases. Christians only make up around 10 per cent of Egypt’s population, the majority being Muslim.

You can thoroughly be an atheist and still kill people. And also be an asshole. History proves the first part, GGD proves the second part.

While this is a religious fueled feud/battleground, it was said in the OP, that this came about an affair. While this is probably a very horrible thing in comparison, people have died due to affairs before.

So remove he religious element. What do you? A rumored affair. Have people died of affairs? Yes. Usually in not such an awful, degreding, prejudiced fashion, but uninvolved parties have died because of affairs.

Anyways, on topic, this is very awful. I hope something happens where there can be peace between the two factions.

You can be an atheist and kill people, but not many people kill in the name of atheism.

Atheists don't kill in the name of atheism. Morality isn't inherently connected to organized belief.

This world will never be peaceful when we still have those "big" religions around.

Most conflicts in the history of humankind were due to religious differences. Not because of atheism. And religion is still being a problem nowadays. So do ur research. I'm not trying to promote atheism or anything, but I'm just stating facts. I'm not even atheist. I do believe in God. But one thing I don't do is follow any religion at all.
