Slayer 9,227
Is it me or have pop artists started getting lazier when it comes to promoting albums? I don't know if I just miss these things, but it feels like both major, long-standing artists and debut artists just don't do much in the way of performances, interviews and PR anymore. Maybe it's because, in the age of the Internet, it's seen as unnecessary because anybody who might potentially be interested in the albums will more likely learn about them through Twitter or Spotify, as opposed to a late-night chat show. But it just seems bizarre that about five years ago, you had all the pop girls competing with these amazing, huge album campaigns...and these days, you're lucky to get a performance out of artists like Rihanna and Beyonce. It's like those campaigns are seen as redundant because touring is where the money's at. In any case, I hope Gaga doesn't fall victim to this strange new phenomenon because I don't think I could handle a poorly promoted era after waiting this long. I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!
LePetitGAGABLover 21,234
I agree. I miss all these tv performances, interviews, etc.
kabirartfling 9,063
Yup plus the fact that there are very few 'cool' shows left to telecaste all that promo...you can't just go to a random tv show and promote ur album...you need a popular show with an impactful audience viewing at home. Ellen show, jimmy fallon ,& jimmy kemmel are the only popular shows telecasting worldwide so... Give your love to me
Harry 26,836
I think it only really applies to big artists who can afford to just tour off their name alone (like Bey, Rihanna etc...) You still have less-established artists right now like Meghan and Ariana who are promoting their albums all over the place and releasing a billion promo singles beforehand. Like you said, the internet definitely has a lot to do with it. Whoever is going to buy an album by Beyonce or Drake probably follow them on social media and are locked into what they're doing. Beyonce doesn't need to go on The Tonight Show to announce her album, cos everyone will know about it straight away. They can post to Instagram and reach millions of people all over the world in a matter of minutes which is way less time consuming than going around and promoting everywhere. Not to mention less expensive. I do miss it too, though. I don't think Gaga can pull off such a big campaign without promoting anywhere just yet so I hope she doesn't pull the same kind of strategy, because I miss seeing these big stars promoting everywhere too. In general though, I don't think they are. You still have big names promoting. But with the internet it's definitely easier to avoid going through that whole circus to let people know your album is out.
latina twilight 2,319
I miss the way it was all well organized when it came to promote an album. Like, they used to add hype to announce each single, they performed live for the very first time, then they would release the video and 2-3 months of full promo. Now it feels like only new artists do that, the rest are like "meh, just a single and then the full album for free". I hope Gaga and Britney bring that back, like the flawless promo of BTW and Femme Fatale. "YOU USED TO BE SO KIND, I NEVER KNEW YOU HAD SUCH A DIRRTY MIND". Katsuki Bakugo 9,788
Internet has destroyed everything!!! If All You Ever Do Is Look Down On People, You Won't Be Able To Recognize Your Own Weaknesses.

She only performed on GMA and Jimmy Kimmel live and then made. Bribed cameo at the billboard music awards. She completely ignored the rest of the world. It's true, but what I mean is that by the time Gaga was promoting BTW she was promoting FF, and that was a really good time for pop music. I wasn't really thinking when I wrote that, haha. Still, I like that minimal promo she did because there was no need for more, plus the videos and their hype were really great. "YOU USED TO BE SO KIND, I NEVER KNEW YOU HAD SUCH A DIRRTY MIND". Honestly if Britney did normal promo levels during Circus and FF, she wouldn't be in the commercial rut she is now. The lack of promo caught up with her and her team sees that now. Thomas P 18,479
I kinda like how things are done now. It represents the time we live in perfectly. I used to be able to sit for 2-3 months waiting for an album to be released, but I realized when waiting for dangerous woman that I just don't have that kind of patience anymore. Imo Beyoncé was the one who changed it back in 2013 (even tho her type of surprise release had been done before). It showed the Internet to be a legitament and viable way to promote an album and to do it quick and easy without the hassle. I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.
