Bernie 2014 Taxes and Tax plan reveal hypocrisy.

However, Bernie doesn't pay the same as everyone else. He pays less.

'Bernie Sanders released his 2014 tax return this weekend, revealing that he and his wife took $60,208 in deductions from their taxable income. These deductions are all perfectly legal and permitted under the U.S. tax code, but they present a morally inconvenient, if delicious, irony: The Democratic socialist from Vermont, a man who rages against high earners paying a lower effective tax rate than blue-collar workers, saved himself thousands using many of the tricks that would be banned under his own tax plan. With all of his itemized deductions, Sanders’s taxable income was significantly lower than it would have been if he had taken the standard deduction. The deductions left Sanders and his wife paying $27,653 in federal income taxes in 2014, on a joint income of $205,271 — an effective federal tax rate of 13.5 percent. If that seems low to you, your instincts are right: According to the Tax Foundation, the average federal income-tax rate for a couple making $200,000 to $500,000 in 2014 was 15.2 percent. The “millionaires and billionaires” that Sanders is so fond of berating payed, on average, just more than twice as much of their income (27.4 percent) in federal taxes as he did.'

People with an income of $100K to $200K only pay an average of 8%. Considering he's only five grand over that range, 13.5% is much much higher. Try again.

Bernie is one of the poorer members of the Senate. He is hiding no big money from speeches, no major investments and he isn't avoiding tax by storing money in offshore accounts.

It's true. If he could pull a landslide in California, he's be ahead of Clinton in delegates. 75% or so. I'm not saying it's possible, but to say it's impossible is just as deluded.

Yes I do. Very improbable. His trajectory is only going down. He's never reaching his goals of winning by extraordinary margins and every time he doesn't meet these goals, his chances gets worst. At this point, I'm comfortable pronouncing it over.

Yes because people can control how much tax the government takes out of their income. It doesn't make him a hypocrite. If anything it's makes him even more commendable because he's essentially targeting himself with his tax plan.

That's what matters most to me.

I know it's a horrible site but the math makes sense. That's why I also posted his tax return. He itemized his deductions so he took more than the standard deduction. His tax plan is for income over 250k so it doesn't affect him negative. So he is not fighting against his own interests. Also we are only speaking federal taxes not state taxes. State taxes vary by state.  He also deducted almost $9,000 in meals. It's very peculiar. But whatever, you make of it what you want.

He is not targeting himself. Lol he is targeting people making over 250k if anything President Obama and all the other Democrats that make millions of dollars need to be commended for raising taxes on the people making more than &1,000,000, which is what Pres Obama did. He truly targeted himself.

Dude that Bloomberg graph proves my point people making between 200k and 500k pay 15% in taxes. Any other of my points you'd like to make. Also I don't have time to explain how averages work to you, but the fact that the average tax payer pays 8% just mean there is a lot of people in the US making a lot less money than Bernie and paying a lot less taxes. All that can be ascertained from the Bloomberg graph you provided. So thank you again for that info.

I'm not seeing the hypocrisy. Do you want him to voluntarily pay more than he owes?

BTW, the quote about "the same share" is referring specifically to the Social Security tax, not overall income tax, which is what the rest of the article talks about. So they've intentionally taken that quote out of context in their failed attempt to find hypocrisy. (You can of course find him saying similar things about overall income tax, but the wording will be something like "their fair share" instead of "the same share".)

Im trying to say that there's more to it than a category. Throwing him in the $200K - $500K category accounts for a 300K dollar gap, and averages of this gap are wild cards. Since he's so close to the $100K-200K range, the safe bet of a "fair share" would be to take an average of the two sections. The average would place an 11% boundary, and guess who's paying 2% over that?

The article is trying to find something from nothing, and it's obvious. I just can't believe you'd have fallen for it.
