Bloody Matt 5,332
I've always found this performance to be REALLY interesting and eloquent. Btw I've always felt a strong connection with the little mermaid and her story myself, so I would be amazed if she really had referenced the little mermaid throughout her whole career. Interesting analysis
kaojen 1,571
All I have to say is we people with depression can have it come and go. Depression was there during the blackout, and during the ARTPOP eras beginning. At the first artrave she was visibly not 100%happy and made comments like "Stop ruining my stage!" when gifts were thrown to her. Later during the tour she was grabbing letters and taking people on stage. When I'm not feeling happy I don't want to deal with the people that love and admire me. Imagine that times 1000000. People just getting in your face for a selfie or physical touch just to have that trophy constantly can't be pleasant. Add depression to the mix. Especially with the moaning and groaning this fan base does during the creative process. It's probably a love/annoyed at mix just like relatives haha I wouldn't look to much into it. Sometimes we fans can be a pain in the butt but she loves us some days and can't take it the next. Just gotta live with it! 🙂

It's amazing how some of her fans puts the efforts into analyzing what she says everytime. It must be a hard task
Killa 16,293
I loved this analysis. It makes lots of sense, i'm very grateful you analysed it. It's a complicated thing, no doubt. But shows that she's very clever, as we know for a fact. If she doesn't try to compromise herself and goes all the way, without hiding her intentions to try grab more audience, or hal-lies in fear of losing some fans, she can do great things. Which i never doubted, that's why i'm here, waiting to be amased. And now i feel like i understand the ArtRave a bit more, there were some things that didn't quite made much sense to me. You made me really excited about the future. The imperative question really is what she's going to do about all this. It's as important as the music being good. Gotta say, no one could have predicted such a career, even if she knew the prices to pay, such rapid stardom really came with a great cost. Such a difficult life, such a challenge. It's an epic journey. And that's why she's so addicitive, there's so many risks in what she does and such passion.
XoXoJoanneGaga 629
Very interesting. Who's to say if it was intentional or not, but if Gaga was still capable of that level of meta conceptualism and imagery in 2012-13 then what she ended up delivering on the resulting album becomes even more disappointing if that's even possible . It does make sense though
Dominic 11,922
There's definitely some connections going on but in all honesty it could just be that she likes mermaids and the mythical and it's not really a planned out and intricate thing. Her quotes about selling perfume and taking selfies with strangers isn't meant towards us, the fans, in a terrible way. I think she's being more passionate about what really matters to her; the music. The joy of the craft. She definitely doesn't feel any hatred towards us, she's just taken a step back from the fame and does what she wants to do now which is to be more private, be happy and enjoy life. We forget that the music is a passion but the industry is work. She has to clock her hours and pay her taxes too. She's human. The hardest thing in this world is to live in it

(2016) Yes, and fans underestimate how tragic this is for an artist. Really tragic. Tragic enough to want to change everything, imo. By everything, I mean if you look at yourself as an artist, above all else a person truly dedicated to art, and that is compromised, then nothing is off the table to change: Her music, even genres, her appearance and how she is seen in public, her relationship with her label, her relationship with her management, her relationship with the public, her relationship with her fans. I live outside the space time continuum.
DiscoHeaven23 35,007
Sometimes I think she really is trying to obtain a different fanbase. We've been so loyal. It's sad

samuelx 1,288
Hmm makes me think about the BTWB and the whole "kill the bitch" thing, how she was trapped in a castle, as well as the IV ARTPOP photoshoot, how she had like 50,000 different looks. It was her artistic way of say her fans control everything she does, and her management is making her be "mother monster"
Kayla 7,595
Holy. ****. The Ursula things are brilliant. And the incorporation at the artRAVE has my head exploded. I feel like you really hit this on the head, Didy. And it kinda makes me sad. And frustrated that I was a part of this big fanbase that really didn't appreciate Gaga the way we should have. Years ago had she done this stuff we would have been analyzing it the MOMENT the first artRAVE happened, but now it's taking like...literally years to pull out the symbolism, references, and intention? The girl we fell in love with (from a fan perspective) is still there, we just don't take the time to see her anymore. As much **** as you get for "hating" Gaga so much, you sure do put more effort into paying attention to what's going on underneath her imagery than most other fans, and I appreciate that. It was her artistic way of say her fans control everything she does, and her management is making her be "mother monster" I think what label and management controlled was her music to make it the most profitable. If the public wanted generic music, then label would try to water her music down, forcing Gaga in some cases to compromise. Just my opinion. I think the "mother monster" and weirdness thing was Gaga's way to make a connection with fans who were made to feel like freaks in HS, and she wanted to make that connection to help them. She said in an interview that her performance art was designed so fans would see the "freak in me" so they won't feel alone. The public has no idea how much Gaga has done her entire career to help people. I live outside the space time continuum.
Kayla 7,595
11 hours ago, giskardsb said: thanks for taking the time to write all that up, interesting career spanning analysis. I've never seen Little Mermaid, maybe I'd understand Gaga better if I did. I think it's not just conjecture, but obvious at this point, that Gaga has often felt like a "fish out of water" (mermaid reference) in her career. It's clear from her early history that before Fusari convinced her otherwise doing dance pop wasn't really in her career plans. That's not to say she didn't buy into it, or do it brilliantly. However, the demands of the pop industry, the price of fame, the constant target she has on her back from both critics and fans, and the need to be respected as a musician and not just a fashionable dancing robot have obviously had effects on her career, as well as her physical and mental health. Remember when she said "ARTPOP is the end of the beginning of my Career."? I think we are in for a whole new phase of Gaga, one more in tune with Gaga's own initial visions of her career, and something that balances all aspects of her creative and artistic needs. Gaga's fans gave her fame, fortune, and a lot of love. They also try to keep her in the dance pop box and don't understand her need for variety of expression and the wide breadth of her interests. I really think she may be at a point where if she has to alienate a bunch of fans in order to escape her "Ziggy Stardust" persona, then she is probably willing to do it, for her own creative needs. holdholdholdon. I'm remembering something. When we gave her the ARTPOP project she told us something like "my fans who understand ARTPOP are my real fans," or the fans who like ARTPOP understand her...****, I'm forgetting the exact phrasing. @Zilla, do you remember how she phrased that? That makes even more sense now when you pair it up with what Didy is saying. D:
