A: because ever since ARTPOP flopped, those who actually gave a **** about Gaga's well being, (instead of being hooked on what music she serves them and them only, or hiding in a corner from all the bad press,) became self concioius about how they can make her not "flop anymore."

Youre welcome. now please stop asking, and keep up.

Why else do you care about sales, for those who do, so we an bookmark this thread as a final end to that annoying question?

Sales highlight superiority.

In my opinion.

Cause the more money she brings in, the higher her budget for subsequent albums and tours will be (dunno how true, but it makes sense). It also feels good to be stanning for an irrefutable queen

Well the more successful - the more companies want to sponsor her tour/videos etc.

If she doesn't sell well, she underperforms or even flops

Do you really think ARTPOP flopping did not affect her negatively? Did you really think it's just the fans who cared? Have you seen her meltdowns and excuses? :duck:

I know all the quality>quantity and #MusicNottheBling tirade but to say she does not need even moderate success is ignorant. People will bash her again and she'll feel lost and devastated again artistically.

Ppl see sales as a marker for someone's success, which is kind of natural when it comes to pop music.

Of course it's kind of a stupid approach, since there are a bunch of other things that can't really be measured (like quality or how influential an artist actually is) which, in the long run, will allow someone to be perceived as more successful than others (more important then someone who, in a given moment, had really strong sales).

Other than that (other than who the audience thinks to be "successful"), we have to consider that each and everyone has a personal definition of what "success" means. To some, yes, it's selling a lot of records and making bunch of money (Taylor? Katy?). To others it might be simply making stuff that they like (Lana, for example, is not a big seller, but she has a good reputation with critics and seems to truly enjoy what she creates...I don't think she ever intends to be "more like Taylor"). To others it might be delivering something innovative, unusual or maybe more technically demanding (Bjork, would be an example)...so how can I hold my ideas of success against these ppl and tell them what to do?

And then there's how sales affect how much investment an artist get. I mean, if you sell a lot, if you're truly profitable, you'll get bigger stages, more money for videos, more promotion, yada, yada, yada...so depending on what you want to be as artist (and Gaga, for example, loves big stages, expensive videos, etc.), you'll need strong sales to keep yourself going!

PERSONALLY...

Sales, frankly, DO NOT determine how much I love an artist..actually, my natural tendency is to be a little disgusted by someone who sells a lot (99% of the ppl I like don't sell very well). However, I do understand that, though they're not as important as ppl currently think they are, sales do inform what the general idea about a certain artist is and they sort of determine what's the budget they'll have to work with...so in this sense they do matter.

God, I talk a lot...

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

ARTPOP didn't actually flop. It just didn't sell 20 million records like people expected it too. That's too much pressure and expectation and she doesn't have a formula to replicate it.

And again, I'll ask you, why do you care if it "flops"? If you like the music, so what if other people don't? Why be self-conscious about it? If Gaga accepts that some people won't like it, why can't you? Not everyone has to like her.

I'm not being rude, I'm genuinely wondering why, because it's so confusing to me.

Yep. Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop The Feeling" is the superior of all new music out right now.

The media seems to only care when Gaga "Flops"

They don't seem to **** with other artists that are only successful because of streaming. :saladga:

I never commented on the standard of music, I commented on how good sales make an artist look superior.

Because Gaga ends the era early, we get a lower budgeted tour, and she gets depressed again and I for one as a fan feel bad for her. She deserves successes.

And honestly, you'd have to be really naive to think she doesn't care about success. See ARTPOP and why she only had 3 singles and why she wrapped up the era so early, gave up on everything and basically seemed defeated until the tour started. She cares about successes. This is Lady Gaga.
