The fire which is now 2000sq km in size and growing that has destroyed 3/4 of Fort McMurray and caused and evacuation of the entire city is still growing. Addtionally 1 million barrels a day of Canada's oil sands production has so far been taken offline

 

But the Canadian Government and Alberta have pledged $1250 per adult and $500 per dependant. The Government has also promissed tremendous funding to rebuild the entire city as fast as possible and is looking into temporary housing for everyone who has lost a home.

The fire has gotten so hot and so large that they arent even trying anymore because they cant make a difference trying to put it out

 

In fact in most areas its gotten so hot and the smoke so dark that helicopters literally cant fly over

 

At this point they are only having ground fire fighters trying to protect critical areas such as the downtown of the city, and Oil Sands plants

 

Damage to oil sands plants would be a huge blow to Canadas economy. It is our biggest export. Saudi Arabia is the only Country in middle east that produces more than we do

 

The city that us being burned and destroyed although not a huge city, it is Canadas Oil Capital. Most Oil Sands workers live in that city, and most equipment suppliers are there. It is one of the most important cities in all of Canada

This is getting worse for Canada every day  but I'm also worried about contamination. In some way it will affect everyone.

Well, no rain in forecast anytime soon so for now it will burn.. 

 

And ummm the housing bubble maybe not, at least not directly. Oil jobs and industries connected to it are mostly concentrated in the Province of Alberta (and to some extent Saskatchwean). In fact the lower oil prices and job losses from it have not spread to the rest of Canada as many economists had feared...

 

What this would do if it caused lasting harm to Oil Sands operations would be a crippling of the economy in the Provncen of Alberta, and for the rest of Canada it would affect it financially

 

Here in the Toronto area and Province of Ontario for example few jobs are commected to oil industry but the Federal Government makes a lot of money off of oil... If this forced them to make cuts, it could affect growth... And if growth stalls and nothing feeds the housing pomzey scheme, then yes it could cause housing bubble to pop

 

So far no plants have been destroyed. It is possible that some equipment manufacturers in Fort Mcmurray could of been destroyed tho. But companies always have extras on hand so, once fire stops production should resume, even if the city is gone... But it will cause disruption.

 

Most workers live in McMurray. Some workers could quit if they have no home near Oil Sands operations for example.

The worst is if plants themselves or equipment manufacturers get damaged or destroyed

 

For now they have been shut down as a precaution and should resume when fire finally ends. But it wont be able to resume in any areas of operations that are destroyed

 

the largest plant just so happens to be the closest one to fort mcmurray where the fire is. Although it should be safe because area around the plant was cleared and has no vegetation within a few hundred metres to spread fire to plant

Lol thats the Oil Capital of Canada... And 3 million barrels a day of oil the dirtiest form of oil in the world are produced in that area. 20% of Canadas emissions come from the bounds of that city of 88,000. The air is already sh*tty there lol

The fire has also been spreading, and other fires have started in other regions of Alberta, to the point that it's almost crawling to Sasketchewan. 

The worst thing is, since my province is a majority Conservative, everyone kinda keeps blaming and hating on the provincial NDP and ofc Trudeau and the Liberal feds. 

I've talked with some people I know who fled here to Edmonton, and they all said they don't wanna go back up there. If this is the case for the majority of evacuees, Canada's gonna have a hard time to reboot operations in Ft Mac right away, unless Canadians from other provinces would come fill in whatever jobs they'd need there.

Albertas economy has taken a real beating since oil crash and companies have fired many workers for cost cutting and unemployment is high in that sector right now

 

im sure they will find workers

 

but if city is destroyed, fewer can comute. They will have to fly in a greater percentage of workers which will raise costs
