Germany AfD conference: party adopts anti-Islam policy

The German right-wing party Alternative fur Deutschland (AfD) has adopted an explicitly anti-Islam policy.

Delegates at a party conference adopted a ban on minarets, the call to prayer and the full-face veil, saying Islam was "not part of Germany".

A delegate who called for more local dialogue with Muslim groups was booed.

The start of the conference in Stuttgart on Saturday was disrupted by clashes andhundreds of left-wing protesters were detained.

Meanwhile, hackers published the addresses of more than 2,000 AfD members on a left-wing website.

Formed three years ago, AfD achieved gains in three state elections in March, after campaigning against Chancellor Angela Merkel's decision to accept a million migrants in 2015.

Mrs Merkel's Christian Democrats (CDU) and other established parties have ruled out going into coalition with AfD.

AfD's other proposals include withdrawal from the euro and the reintroduction of conscription, but there are splits within the party, including between its less hardline wing and the leadership.

This is yet another result of the rise of nationalism in Europe in the face of increasing unrest under the EU triggered by the refugee crisis.

Was this before or after they invited millions of turkish and other muslim immigrants to rebuild Germany? 

AfD is scum and they know that. Their supporters are angry and misguided, possibly mentally ill, people.

To be honest I disagree with both extremes (with the one side saying that we need to kick all those with a muslim background out, and the other side which says that Islam is no problem, and that the discrimination from natives towards migrants is the sole cause for the bad numbers for migrants). I do think the Islam is a big problem in Europe, because it's the biggest threat to emancipation. Islam is a dividing factor in Europe, and ideologies based on/with roots in Islam have caused terrorist attacks across the continent (even slowing down GDP growth in Belgium 0,1% last quarter). Muslim migrants (especially North Africans) make up for a disproportional amount in crime numbers, homophobia, sexism, antisemitism, which can only for a part be justified by their socioeconomic status, and every European knows that the unsafe parts of a city are those where the most migrants live. But solely screaming that there's a problem and causing polarisation isn't going to fix it. A compromise needs to be found between the nationalist parties and other parties to turn back the current trend of people losing faith in democracy. While I do not think muslims should be sent out of the country, I do think that the assimilation process has failed tremendously and integration followed up by assimilation is the only way out of the continental crisis. I also want to note that I am not saying all these problems (besides terrorism) are fully a consequence of islam as a religion, because it is also a consequence of different roles and manners in which most migrant kids are brought up.

This is the first rational response to this crisis I've read. It is true integration failed horribly and thus assimilation also.
