Anti-LGBT "therapist bill" signed by Tennessee governor

(CNN) - Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam on Wednesday signed a bill into law that allows therapists and counselors with "sincerely held principles" to reject gay, lesbian, transgender and other clients.

In a written statement to the media, he said two of his concerns had been addressed by this most recent version of the bill, which passed the state Senate on April 6. The first requires therapists and counselors to treat people who are an imminent danger to themselves or others. The second mandates the mental health professional arrange a referral to another counselor or therapist.

"The substance of this bill doesn't address a group, issue or belief system," the governor said. "I believe it is reasonable to allow these professionals to determine if and when an individual would be better served by another counselor better suited to meet his or her needs."

If you'd reject a patient for that you need your license taken immediately. I'd sue tbh.

But I don't understand it, we are like everybody else, we breathe, we have a nose, two eyes, 2 ears, a mouth, teeth, a face, a body, an ass, 2 arms, 2 legs, 2 feet, etc ...

Just because we have sex with the same sex or changed our sex.

Anyway why does it matter THAT much? :saladga:

TBH it's probably better this way we don't want someone putting a bad idea in an emotionally vulnerable person. :wtf:

Bad Bromance

Sometimes I have to pinch myself to realize we're living in the year 2016, not 1950.  From the backward steps we have taken in recent years, anyone would think these are the 1950's.   :wtf:

The ultra religious people in this country are causing so many problems and much strife to our LGBT community.  When is this going to end??!!!   :saladga:

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.

These will be the kinds of policies, laws and bills that are allowed to stand if we get one or two conservative Supreme Court Justices added in the next four years. These types of "religious freedom" and bathroom laws and now this therapist bill will end up at the highest court. We better hope that we don't have a conservative leaning Supreme Court.

Is it not true?

There are more important things than bathroom controversy. I'm hoping for Scalia Mk. II.

I thought that the Supreme Court ruling of legal gay marriage will bring good changes for the LGBT community in the US but it got worse :(

I fell down the stairs once as an actor.
