Well i'm not going to admit that I'm sexist because we all know that Jay Z is a huge name in music industry. I never said she has earned everything from him, but being with Jay Z has helped her a lot in some moments

not really. females rarely get such high scores.

That album was hyped up (thanks to Formation) to be about celebration of people's of color culture and sticking for their rights. Everyone is afraid to say they didn't like that album publicly, especially now after so many incidents of blatant racism by cops in US etc. Too bad it turned out to be the album about coping with infidelity in a relationship more than about black culture. But it already spread out as such and people don't quite see how it really is

Although it doesn't mean critics should be afraid to objectively rate a popstar's album. And it certainly feels like they are afraid to rate it something less than 90 which is just so sad.
Proffesionals afraid of SJW's opinion, what an era are we live in :wtf:

Yes it has helped her but making her success & acclaim look smaller than it is is wrong, she's not where she is ONLY because of Jay Z.

:air:there many other records about black rights lurking in the bottom of metacritic scores. What else you could come up. Just open your ears and hear Lemonade songs. Then go again and see the lemonade film. A score less than 95 is approaching the delusion for me.

Sister

Yes. But at the same time, it's about time, because she has always gotten so much credit and did not have the music or imagination to show for it, so I am happy for her finally. I am still not a fan of her though.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

Overrated because it's by Beyoncé. Obviously Rolling Stone had to give it a 100/100 when it's about an album by Jay-Z's wife. If you wanted to make a statement about black people, you didnt have to make it with something that you obviously were going to make money from it. See BTW Foundation and the Secret Project by Madonnw that were completely free things.

And Gaga did make money from Born This Way.

Anyway, to all people saying she bought the score: are you serious? If it were Gaga having such score you wouldn't have a single doubt. But of course, since it's not her, it can't be possible.

I don't think it's surprising at all. In my opinion, this is the best pop album in years. I find that deep, interesting, reference-packed artistic musical and visual experiences (as the one she offered with the Lemonade film) are definitely lacking in pop culture. Not only that, but she took the opportunity to make a bold political and cultural statement.

She deserves it!

She cemented herself in pop culture, definitely, but I don't think it deserves a higher rating that The Fame Monster. Lemonade is basically a concept album but Bey wasn't the first to make sonically and thematically cohesive albums.

But I enjoy it and the songs are brilliant, this is so refreshing and so good to enjoy, especially after 4 boring years of lame music.

The problem is that the theme of the fame monster and its cohesiveness has to be searched for and you have to look for Gaga's explanations of the album to understand it, otherwise it just comes off as just a bunch of random tracks. Lemonade is what it is, you can see what it is instantly and its a work of art.

I heard it like 5 times already, still don't see how it is a 100/100 album

Bolded : I don't see how it should affect the album's (MUSIC's) score... Are we supposed to look through all the MV's from all the artists and reevaluate all the scores form their albums ? That would be fair if we want to count Lemonade film in the equation.

Mister Gaga

Not shocked at all :laughga: she's overrated af, it was obvious. Like A Prayer's impact is still visible this days, it's legacy is unquestionable. Lemonade's "impact" won't last two years.
