The thing is, you have to convince people with ideals, and translate those ideals into policy once you're actually in the White House. Only for the more educated, experts and media it's necessary to go more in depth. Just know that the president doesn't have that much power, as long as the American parliament has a Republican majority. However, in the hypothetical situation that there is a Democrat majority after the next elections, Sanders would probably get more done than Hillary. She's more right-winged, and I actually think that a Bernie-Republican compromise on economics is equal to Hillary's policy with a democratic majority in parliament. Also remember that there's a large difference between socialism and socialdemocracy. You probably know that. Also, Bernie is more centrist/center-left than left-wing, while Hillary should be considered centre-right to centre and Cruz far-right. The majority of people do actually want to know that there is some evidence of details behind the promises. Otherwise, it ends up being nothing but an empty promise. That's why Bernie wasn't getting the support he needed to get the nomination. The break up the big banks slogan held no merit and people were disappointed that he didn't even understand the basics behind the cornerstone of his campaign. That, in and of itself, showed that he was unprepared in general. He was all talk, with no meat behind the message. Yes, I am well aware that the President's powers are limited, especially with a hostile Congress. There is absolutely no way Bernie would have gotten more done in office. His policies would mean way more taxes for everyone, way more burden on the states' economies and would impact 401Ks. There is no state Senator or Representative that woukd want to face the backlash from their constituency. They want to stay in office, not lose their job! Bernie's policies are so far outside what any Congressman from either party would agree with, that he would be a dead on arrival President. I'm seriously trying to think of one of his policies that woukd have stood a chance...even a small one. I guess his displeasure with Citizens United, because all Democrats want that gone. Obama and Clinton feel the same and have wanted it overturned for a while now.

Like 90% of Europe (+Canada and AU) have done many things he proposed and been very successful. Their's not a single nation that has had a successful conservative government that's not a authoritarian dictatorship or some corrupt nation. The US doesn't have the same tax rate as these other places you brought up. You will understand the importance of a 10 per cent tax rate vs a 40 or 50 per cent rate one day when you have a full time job, bills and taxes to pay. The US economy simply isn't structured like that of countries in Europe. The American people don't want it to be like those other countries, either. What I find interesting about this is that he's loaned the money to his campaign but no one seems to care he's only actually paid a couple hundred grand to his campaign and he's already collected several million dollars in donations. 7 hours ago, Bernie Sanders said: How would Bernie not get stuff done? Though I agree with you in a way and I do think the U.S. should, on some level, strive to be more like European countries, it's simply not realistic to think that we're ready for that step. Imagine a woman who says Obama prostituted himself to gay men to support a drug habit, school shootings happen because evolution is taught, climate change is a corrupt government's conspiracy, baby dinosaurs lived on Noah's ark, JFK's assassination was done by Democrats who wanted communist LBJ in office instead, the UN is trying to reduce the world's population by 2/3rd's in order to control it, Islam is a death cult, and gay marriage is an infringement on religious rights. Now imagine that woman is probably going to have a place in Texas' board of education. Yeah, you don't have to imagine it. Meet Mary Lou Bruner. In a place where this kind of stupid sh*t still happens, it's hard to imagine universal healthcare and government financed education...we're definitely not there yet. Just wait 'til the baby boomers and generation X to die off, it'll get better. Spoiler Wow, that was kind of an evil thing to say...but I stand by it. Not that I'm wishing death on anyone, but there's no debate that it's the older conservatives who are holding us back as a society. Not that I'm wishing death on anyone, but there's no debate that it's the older conservatives who are holding us back as a society. You have the same in every Western country these days. The US might get more attention for it, but here they asked random people where Ukraine was (due to a referendum on an Ukrainian association treaty) and people confidently pointed their fingers at Kazakhstan, Poland, Georgia and even Russia Marine le Pen, the Polish guy (who has a one-party government at the moment) and Geert Wilders are in no way better than Trump, and here a big minority is actually for leaving the EU Anyways, I do think Bernies arguments have substance. See healthcare. The problem in the US lies at prevention, bureaucracy and organisation. In fact, the US healthcare system, despite costing money for the citizens, is way more expensive (as a percentage of GDP) than any free system in Europe. Healthcare could actually be made free AND made cheaper for the government. Raising taxes by 30% is a big exaggeration. Bernie would probably be able to raise taxes by about 10%, and would with that money fight poverty, which would reduce the amount of people that rely on social security/food stamps. Etcetera etcetera, you probably have heard before why Bernies plans, economically speaking, are by far tbe best by making the US economy stable, improving education, making risks for consumers smaller (no chance of a 50k healthcare bill), reducing poverty, increasing minimum wage, working on infrastructure and green energy and getting more people to work. Ofcourse some parts of his plans are less good, like keeping retirement age at 65 and raising taxes on business (and in my opinion healthcare shouldn't be totally free), but the other plans make up for it. The point is he chose to enter the Democratic party and play by its rules and cooperation measures. Now he's taking it back. It's sickening. It's so goddamn transparent. He's saying that he won't support her so the DNC will feel compelled to take that into account during the convention and when superdelegates come around. If that's not corruption I don't know what the **** is. He doesn't have to endorse her wholeheartedly. He can just tell his supporters she's the next best thing. A lot of them take his word as gospel so they'll at least try to rationalize it or whatever. A few of my hardcore Bernie supporter friends on Facebook have denounced this and regretted voting for him. I hope this bites him in the ass so hard he gets booted from political life to live out the rest of his days in a nursing home where he belongs in his senility. Sorry if I seem like I lost it but nothing pisses me off more than betrayal. What? I don't think you know what corruption means. He's has 0 obligation to tell his supporters to vote for her. He's still in the race and that was a dirty question to throw at him. If he had answered yes, people would have assumed that he was giving up. Not to mention, and as much as I hate the Bernie or Bust movement (it's privileged af and it's easy for white people to say Bernie or Bust, completely forget about poor/queer poc), Bernie is still a citizen with political views, so if he does not agree with Clinton's views, he has no business telling them to vote for her. Zero obligation? Corruption is the dishonest practice of your responsibilities. Bernie has made it clear that he was going to support her if she wins, and after all that he has suddenly shifted his paradigm when he started losing. Hes the other democratic nominee. He's been trashing Hillary, a colleague, for a while now. The entire point is to remind people that despite the contention she is not the enemy. People are only asking Bernie that question because they know full well that Hillary is going to do it if it came to it. They want to know if Sanders is only out for Sanders. And no, Sanders forfeit his ethical right to not support the democratic nominee when he signed up with the Democratic Party and ran for president. He's a high profile figure now and his opinion matters. Democrats are all about unity, in principle if not always in practice. He's not just a citizen now. He's a figurehead of something greater.
