Sanders: Clinton Will Have To Win Over My Supporters Herself

During a town hall with MSNBC's Chris Hayes on Monday, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) told a supporter that it's his choice whether to back Hillary Clinton if she becomes the Democratic presidential nominee.

A audience member who said he backs Sanders' candidacy asked the senator whether he will encourage his supporters to back Clinton if she wins the nomination.

"We’re not a movement where I can snap my fingers and say to you or to anybody else what you should do, that you should all listen to me. You shouldn’t. You make these decisions yourself," Sanders replied.

He then said that Clinton will have to court his supporters herself.

"And if Secretary Clinton wins, it is incumbent upon her to tell millions of people who right now do not believe in establishment politics or establishment economics, who have serious misgivings about a candidate who has received millions of dollars from Wall Street and other special interests," he said. "She has got to go out to you."

During a town hall with MSNBC's Rachel Maddow on Monday night, Clinton said that during the 2008 election, she did not set "conditions" for supporting Barack Obama.

"We got to the end in June and I did not put down conditions. I didn’t say, ‘You know what, if Sen. Obama does W, Y, and Z maybe I’ll support him," Clinton said. "I said I am supporting Sen. Obama."

"I hope that we will see the same this year," she added.

It's not about telling his voters what to do. It's to remind them that the Democrats serve their interests the best. He should know given that he's the one that aligned with them.

Of course he doesn't give a **** about the influence he has over his supporters who he has turned off from Hillary, and is only out for Bernie and Bernie alone. He continues to demonstrate that he's not interested in advancing progressives and only is interested in his agenda and his alone. Compromise? LMAO. None of it. No wonder this trash has no friends. 

He has always said he'd support the eventual nominee and then he goes like this. This is the same kind of backtracking bullshit he says about Clinton over and over again.

Using the "establishment" then dumping it when it's no longer in his favor. He just lost any respect I had for him. 

Here's how you ****ing lose with dignity. Watch it. It's the best concession speech I've ever heard and reminds people that it's not about which Democrat gets in the White House, but that a Democrat does, because liberal progressive values are the main focus.

He'll end up supporting her in July. He's saying this now because he's still trying to get votes. A lot of Bernie supporters absolutely would never vote for her so it's still a campaign strategy. If he shows he's being submissive towards her his supporters will lose enthusiasm. That's why his campaign is starting to look very delusional as of late.

Trading blows during a campaign is dirty but normal. Outright stating that you won't even bother to support the eventual nominee who happens to be a colleague of the same party is something else.

Clinton herself isn't sure he's a Democrat though, remember that? 

And quite frankly even if he does support her a lot of the Bernie or Bust people have absolutely lost it. I've gotten in so many arguments with them on Facebook, they just don't get it

People complain about how Hillary is corrupted and crap while they let this son of a bitch blackmail the DNC to supporting him and **** over his own colleagues.

The point is he chose to enter the Democratic party and play by its rules and cooperation measures. Now he's taking it back. It's sickening.

It's so goddamn transparent. He's saying that he won't support her so the DNC will feel compelled to take that into account during the convention and when superdelegates come around. If that's not corruption I don't know what the **** is.

He doesn't have to endorse her wholeheartedly. He can just tell his supporters she's the next best thing. A lot of them take his word as gospel so they'll at least try to rationalize it or whatever.

A few of my hardcore Bernie supporter friends on Facebook have denounced this and regretted voting for him. I hope this bites him in the ass so hard he gets booted from political life to live out the rest of his days in a nursing home where he belongs in his senility.

Many independent voters failed to register for the Democratic party to vote for the candidate who registered for the Democratic party.

It's not rigged. Independent voters knew there was no Independent in the race and had enough time to pick the side which best aligns with their interests. Sanders went Democrat long before the primaries. They had enough time. They just chose not to educate themselves about the rules of the state they lived in, probably thinking they could do it via iPhone in the comfort of their own home.

I don't know how anyone can justify this. MP says it's campaign strategy, but if campaign strategy is threatening others and blackmailing your own organization then it speaks a lot about your candidate's character.

I'm furious but I haven't said anything inaccurate.
