You're the one pretending that the US isn't leading that charge. Yes, we have incidents like this but there was still countries in Europe where it's functionally illegal to be gay. It's my thread I'm not European. We were not the first country to have gay rights or the first country to have marriage equality. We weren't even top ten. Are things good here? Yes. Could things be better? Yes. 

We are not leading. We are not even leading in our continent.

Correct. People don't realize it, but there are already ten other states in line with these ridiculous new wave of laws that target LGBT rights:

At present, there are 17 anti-transgender bills sitting before ten state legislatures.

Also, North Carolina is not an outlier. More than 115 anti-LGBT bills were introduced in 2015, according to the Human Rights Campaign. A number of those bills are still pending; most were "religious refusal" bills like the Georgia legislation that Hollywood power players were threatening to boycott the state over before the bill was vetoed.

Judging the US's stance on gay rights by looking to North Carolina is like judging Europe's reputation on gay rights by looking at Russia. It doesn't make any sense.

I saw the video and thought it was in the US. 

EDIT: Googled the story and it is in fact in England

Honestly I would have thought they were American too  

They're probably in the more urban areas which don't have accentuated accents.

Um, this IS in the US. Unless police in the UK started wearing American flag patches on their uniforms (clearly seen at 17 seconds).

There is a similar story about a lesbian woman being kicked out of a McDonalds for using the women's bathroom in a separate incident.

See I thought this was too. I didn't see the flag but UK police wear hats and have a different kind of badge and uniform. I didn't want to say anything because people were sure it was from the UK. That doesn't look like a McDonals either. It looks like they are holding Starbucks cups. IMO.
