Lesbian kicked out of woman's bathroom

I saw a video of a lesbian woman (very young) that was forcefully kicked out of a woman's bathroom by security ( police ) because she was dressed in baggy clothes like some lesbians do. She was a woman who identified as a woman. All the female friends she was in the bathroom with were yelling at the security (police) that she was a woman. Meanwhile if she were in the men's bathroom nothing would have happened. Chances are everyone has shared a bathroom with a trans person and not known it. These laws discrminate gays and lesbians that identify themselves as the gender they were born with but dress in a gender bending way more than trans people.

I think it has to do with masculinity. Men are perceived to be sexual predators. When conservatives say they don't want trans people in the wrong bathroom they aren't referring to ftm trans individuals they are referring to mtf individuals. They don't want a "man in a dress" raping a woman. It's masculinity people find threatening, which is why you would see a butch lesbian thrown out of a woman's bathroom. It's why single Dads at play grounds are looked at with unease.

People just take this gender **** too seriously, trans activists included.

One year you have marriage equality and the next year the country decides to treat LGBT people (especially trans people) like they are less deserving of respect and rights. This is sad, I hope she is alright.

Again, one small state and one Facebook video. The US is a very progressive and tolerate country when you consider all 350 million of us tyvm.

Yet it seems like every other day you read about LGBT people being treated awfully. I'm not from the US, so please correct me if I am wrong, but lately all people in Europe hear is how violated the LGBT community feels. 

However, I do agree that the US is very progressive. For example Germany, Europe's biggest economic nation, still has to legalize same sex marriage.

Yeah because nobody reports about it when LGBT people are treated fairly, like they are every day in most places here. And trust me, I've picked up on the sudden uptick of people from Europe/abroad thinking the US is regressive as of late. I think it's a combination of an increase in sensational reporting like this as well as a tendency to make general sweeping statements about the state of LGBT rights in America. It's unfair. We've made more progress as a whole than most countries on the planet, yet if you were to ask a European on GGD they would think that we imprison our gays lol...

Judging the US's stance on gay rights by looking to North Carolina is like judging Europe's reputation on gay rights by looking at Russia. It doesn't make any sense.

Gotcha. It's still unfortunate that the woman in the OP had to endure that and I wish her the best, but I'm relieved to hear that hate crimes aren't as common as they seem.

Sensational reporting? It's a Facebook video. Yes we have many laws that other countries don't. That's because we see videos like this, and we let our politicians know we won't stand for it and laws are changed. You act like there isn't still an uphill fight for LGBT rights. There are still states that employers can fire you for being gay. You also act like what happened in N. Carolina is an isolated incident. News flash, there are many laws that are in different states that can be approved at anytime that will limit or strip the rights of the LGBT community.

I don't pretend that there isn't an uphill battle. 

You're the one pretending that the US isn't leading that charge. Yes, we have incidents like this but there was still countries in Europe where it's functionally illegal to be gay. It frustrates the hell out of me when Europeans think they can lecture Americans on equality. We are one of the most progressive nations on the planet.
