More a lot of food, showing the baby and letting all the women says "awwww", laughing, talking.. and eating...sharing it with the other new mom in the room and her family.. there's a limit of the number of people in a room for each woman anyway in Israel, so It's notl ike there are 40 people inside a room.. 5-7 max.. That's really not appropriate. Childbirth isn't the same for every woman. There is varying degrees of pain and exhaustion. I can't blame new moms for wanting a peaceful, quiet environment. You don't think Arab women can have various degrees of pain and exhaustion after giving birth? FreePalestine

Which is fine. Where it becomes innapropriate us when they their culture crosses with someone who is wanting or needing recuperation time. That's why I wouldn't blame new moms of new moms to be for wanting to avoid rooming with anyone that was going to have this type of atmosphere after the birth. It's Middle East, River just told you it's a custom of both Jews of Middle Eastern origin and Arabs. And the solution for that is segregation by race/religion/culture or imposing Western European customs? You already mentioned private rooms, so that is the solution for this type of moms, right? "This is not appropriate" just sounds like you're looking down upon their culture. FreePalestine

In that case, it would be best if they put those new moms together who had a festive, party-like atmosphere after they gave birth. That way, those who prefer their hospital stay to be quiet and focusing on trying to get rest could have that option. If there are private rooms available everywhere, at all times, for little to no cost, then there shouldn't ever be an issue. Once again, the reasoning from the guy in the OP is hateful and racist. New moms wanting a hospital stay that focuses on rest and a more peaceful atmosphere is different.

And this guy is just giving his reasons. There are moms from both sides who would want to have more rest and less guests and that's up to them, to prepare for that. Yes, that is the topic here and that's what my comments have been discussing. Yes, I know the guy is giving his reasons and part of his reasoning was racist and ignorant. If cultures clash, especially when it comes to invading on someone else's recuperation time in a hospital setting, then it makes perfect sense to try and match up cultures to make everyone happy. Once again, I don't blame new mom's for wanting what they need...whatever that may be. Since there seems to be an established culture difference, with one group preferring a festive party in the hospital and the other preferring to have concentrated time on peace and rest....why not match the moms up with their preferences? It seems like a common sense solution, so everyone can be happy and have what they need. I'm sure there are many moms that don't care either way. Maybe they can ask that question on admission? Or maybe just offer private rooms to everyone? That's how it is in the US, as far as I know. (meaning maternity wards have private rooms)

What is this matching up? Would you go to hospital to give birth and ask to be in a room with white Americans only, because other moms from other culture/races are too loud? Because that is what is happening in these hospitals. FreePalestine

If a certain culture (whatever that may be) has a practice of having a party with food and lots of people in a hospital room, then why not match those individuals up so it can be one big party and not disturb those don't want to recuperate in that manner? If this is an issue and moms aren't getting what they need, why not try to accomadate them? In the US, the rooms are private in a maternity ward. Visitors and visiting times are limited in semi-private rooms for other floors in the hospital. If a person in that situation was having family and friends that were disturbing the other person, then the visitors would be cut back even more and the other person would probably be moved to a different room.
