If Gaga was speaking at a conference and she had a fan introduce her that used misogynistic language to describe another person, then the comparison would be valid. No artist can be responsible for all their fans and no candidate can be responsible for all their followers. However, the candidates can set the tone and preview the words of the people who they bring in to introduce them, especially when they are bringing in a "regular citizen". It would be harder to review or dictate what a congressman or some highly respected official was going to say, especially if they went off script. 

In this case, a review of the introduction should have taken place beforehand. Maybe Bernie didn't hear what this guy said at first and his team didn't alert him to what was going on? I don't care for his campaign directors too much. I'm glad Bernie apologized.
