People should stop deciding a single is over just because it doesn't smash the first week. Labels included. They shouldn't just throw a song away because it doesn't go viral. We'll see if they sweep this under the rug like focus. Hits like all great things can take some time!! Dangerous woman is nice, and the more you listen to it the more you like it imo.  Xoxo gg

This is the song's third week, not first.

And since it's debut it has been continually falling : /

The song is excellent but that's just it - it's too good for mainstream charts. Its style, that 80's power ballad with guitar solo just isn't what the youth of today want. They want a modern style, generic beats, mediocre vocals and sex songs that mention Instagram. A song that doesn't do these things and manages to become a hit is the exception, not the rule. It baffles me that Ariana seems to have the full package for being a megastar but it just isn't happening, at least as far as solo goes. It's unthinkable that she has 2 versions of the song on Vevo (the official audio and a version 1 official music video) plus a live acapella version counting for all these streams and yet it can't even get in the top ten. Unheard of these days. So, it must mean basically all her fans bought it in the first week and now very few people remain interested in it. But she's stuck with it. It's confirmed as the official lead single, it's the title of her album and the official cover art has been released. It can't be swept under the rug like Focus was. Her label must have been that certain that this was going to be a hit that they already made it uber official only for it to fail to meet expectations and now nothing can be done. The most she can do is delay the release but that's going to annoy the fans and lessen interest even more.

Honestly, I don't think it's anything to do with the donut incident. The public has all but forgotten that. It's all to do with the fact that artists, no matter how talented they are, are simply struggling to last more than a few years in the limelight successfully. We have such short attention spans now and are always looking for the next big thing. That's why I don't go overboard by calling any new artist "one of the major league pop artists" until they've had proper hits for about 3 consecutive albums. It's the follow-up to the follow-up to the follow-up that truly determines if you'll stick around.

If Ariana is fading then Gaga is officially dead.

DW hasn't slowed down. It is still building about 100 spins a daily just on pop radio. Spotify still has her at number 11 in the US, up one spot from yesterday and her combined daily YouTube views from the audio, video and acapella still give her more than 3M views daily and she is still top ten on iTunes. She is well above some people in the top ten in all streaming platforms. Just saying.

Here in Italy DW is played quite often on the radios+ it has been uploaded on several playlists on Spotify. That said, the general public is not paying much attention to Ariana (not to mention Meghan and Iggy, they disappeared from the radar).

We have to deal with the fact that many of these girls are going to fade, they cannot substitute Gaga, Katy, Bee, Rihanna.. They don't add nothing interesting to the musical scene, tbh.. Tho I love DW, I think it's Ari best single

Economy

We Currently dont have any super megastars

Gaga & Katy Perry arent releasing  yet and Taylor Swift and Adele are pretty much done for now

Maybe Rihanna or Justin Bieber have a shot... maybe.

Expect no specific individual to dominate charts until further notice :green:

You know, this is nothing new...

The overwelming majority of artists dont last with great success for more than 2-4 years tops. But thats the way its always been

People looking back may perceive that to be different because the music industries highlights are what comes to mind. You remember the best hits, and you remember legends like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Elton John, Prince, Elvis Presley etc and all these artists that lasted and had a long impact

But most artists werent Elites back then either, these names were the exeption also. In fact the 1980s is known as the decade of 1-hit wonders. There were many, many, many artists that simply did not last. My mom will play hit music from her days and 80% of those names ive never heard of!!!

In 20-30 years people will look back and remember the elites like Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift,  Britney Spears, Eminem, Beyonce, Rihanna and aritsts like these who lasted and think in our time everyone lasted but thats not true, cuz most artists today do not last or have the impact of the ellites i just named above ^^^^^^^
