Muslims a Are Creating Nations Within Nations

The former head of Britain’s Equalities and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), Trevor Phillips, has admitted he “got almost everything wrong” regarding immigration in a new report, claiming Muslims are creating “nations within nations” in the West.

Phillips says followers of Islam hold very different values from the rest of society and many want to lead separate lives.

The former head of the U.K.’s equalities watchdog also advocates the monitoring of ethnic minority populations on housing estates to stop them becoming “ghetto villages.”

He says schools may have to consider a 50 per cent limit on Muslim, or other minority pupils, to encourage social integration.

And he says disturbing survey findings point to a growing chasm between the attitudes of many British Muslims and their compatriots.

Phillips’ intervention comes after he was asked to analyse the findings of a major survey on Muslim attitudes in the U.K., which will form the basis of Channel 4’s documentary, What British Muslims Really Think, which is due to air on Wednesday night.

An ICM poll released to the Times, in Britain, ahead of the broadcast reveals:

• One in five Muslims in Britain never enter a non-Muslim house

• 39 per cent of Muslims, male and female, say a woman should always obey her husband

• 31 per cent of British Muslims support the right of a man to have more than one wife

• 52 per cent of Muslims did not believe that homosexuality should be legal

• 23 per cent of Muslims support the introduction of Sharia law rather than the laws laid down by parliament

I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it.

Sounds like every religion tbh. They just actually follow through with their strict guidelines. At my baptist church we were always taught to live separate lives from "the world" :laughga:

There is no religion  in Western Europe whose 23% of the followerswant laws based in religious texts.

Anyway, there is an"European" Islam needed or some kind of modern reformist movements

Scary. I've seen many documentaries capturing the self-segregated world of Muslims in the UK. No assimilation whatsoever.

Don't Orthodox Jews live like that in NY?

They live according to their own laws, segragated communities etc.

They're obviously talking about laws of marriage, divorce, inheritance etc.

Don't religious (orthodox) Jews want the same? Some Christians too, like Jehova's Witnesses.

LebaneseDude

Hezbollah and their zealous Shiite followers in Lebanon are a nation within a nation.

No lies spotted.

Honestly though it has more to do with ethnic bundling rather than some nefarious Islamic plot (like Hezbollah).

Most people simply prefer to remain associated with "their own kind" and tend to flock to one another. Naturally they'd form subcultures.

It's the same as with African Americans or Hispanics or any other minority in the USA.

Of course it's a problem when they want to enforce official rules on the neighborhood. (Sharia Law)

The large parts of Jews and Christians don't in Western Europe. Maybe 1-2% ,maybe even less

I agree with that one and I don't mind that people want to be associated with their "own kind". It only gets difficult if they want to rewrite the democracy and basic human rights

OmgSum1Actually

He isn't lying...

Most of them want to be accepted but do not want to accept others in their country. It's not all muslims,  but it's a very commonly occuring value in their culture

Dominic

I was reading about this today,  it is very apparent in some parts of the UK.  There's several Muslim 'nations' in my local area and it doesn't do anything for intergration.  I am however very suprised at some of those statistics,  I didn't think British Muslims were as behind the times as they seemingly are.  Quite sad really...

The hardest thing in this world is to live in it

How do you know tho, where is the recent similar poll to this one for other minorities?

What about things like this?

It's commonly perceived as a bad thing because you should want to belong to the community and enrich the whole community with bits of your culture and at the same time accept bits of other cultures which creates a central culture or central values of society

I don't agree with that either , don't get me wrong, but even there it is a huge minority. There around 300.000 Jews in the UK and let's say 10.000 are like that as in the thread you posted. and not to mention how small the Jewish community is compared to the Muslim one in the uk and not shaping the society or areas that much. Nevertheless, the ultra-orthodox are a mess, too.

Taking my country for example there are the so called "sharia police" who go to Muslims who live a "modern" life and try to convert them to very radical ideas. There are no Jews or Christians waiting outside of clubs. though Christians also search every way to convert people

On paper, no, it's not a bad thing. If anything, I kind of like it... the same way there are gay villages etc.

The issue is however that these areas are wrapped in poverty and often have extremely high crime rates when compared to other areas. These aren't areas that are thriving (for example when the gays tend to take over an area, house/flat prices tend to increase over time etc.), but areas that are slowly ran down until other residents nearby leave causing more segregation.
