On what planet do you live? EVERYBODY knows Telephone, Alejandro (they were BIG hits) & Judas!

That's anecdotal evidence that everyone knows that stuff. My grandma doesn't, my dad doesn't, my mom couldn't name then but would maybe recognize them. Also I know a lot of people that know those songs but don't like them which was my point. Also a lot of people I know stopped knowing what Gaga did after judas. Edge of glory and you and I still had high visibility but many people tuned out by that point.

you can't say everyone knows what you know when I know people that don't. You can only correctly say people don't know something because that's something you can prove. You can't speak for "EVERYBODY"

Who dislikes Telephone & Alejandro? I know ONE person in my entourage who doesn't like Judas but it's because he's a christian and didn't get the message of the song.

Lmao you want the names of people I know in my personal life? I rememeber a lot of people liking Alejandro the song but thinking the music video was really bad. My best friend thinks telephone is horrible. And other friends of mine have said "what was up with Judas?" She wasn't offended she just didn't get it. People have different opinions, it's not a huge issue. But it's also not your place to decide what people think, it isn't a fact because you think it is

Yeah of course everybody was disturbed by the Alejandro music video, I was talking about the song, the video made me feel so uncomfortable as I was only 12 at the time. I never said "t isn't a fact because I think it is" :awkney:

Gaga was still #1 before the release of born this way. People were still interested in her and curious what she's going to do next. I still remember the amount of views on Youtube for the audio of born this way. It was like 70 or 80 million views for the audio alone and I think they took it of youtube before the music video dropped. And that was in 2011 and for just an audio.  She was A PHENOMENON back then. :(

That's why I hate born this way so so much

Not everybody is a rabid pop fan and most of the people only know the signature songs of the artist even though they may have heard their other songs. Madonna is one of the greatest pop stars but  when asked if they like any of her songs most will name Like a Prayer, Vogue or Hung Up.

Signature song? No it ain't. BORN THIS WAY is her signature song so far.

Excuse me no lol

Barely anybody I know knows Born This Way, but almost everyone knows Bad Romance. The Rah Rah hook is one of the most recognizable of all time in pop and it's just such an iconic song that everyone has heard.

Just because Born This Way might have 'saved lives' or whatever, doesn't make it her signature. It was iconic, true, but Bad Romance just changed the pop scene.

Haven't even read the post however I think the obvious answer is that it's the last song that impacted them enough for them to care about.

Gaga became too weird, political and LGBT focused after TFM for the mainstream-loving public to handle. I think she and her label thought by that point that anything she did would be loved by all without question. Turned out that they weren't as accepting as hoped. It's a shame because BTW was her best album to me and her potential got squashed afterwards because nobody wanted to hear a song with biblical connotations or a country-esque song on the radio. But people definitely know BTW and TEOG, unquestionably. They just need a bit of reminding. It gets to me when they need reminding, though because TEOG in particular is still loved and alluded to by many members of the public all this time later, it shouldn't need to be dragged out. Mind you, even with some of her older stuff, you'd be surprised how people slip up. I had to do this little Guess The Song Title exercise once and the lyrics of BR were there. And before I could get a word in, the 2 girls with the pen start singing the lyrics and go: "It's that Gaga song...what's it called...I Want Your Love!" And no joke, they started writing I Want Your Love on the paper and I had to correct them. This was in spring 2011, when BTW and Judas had come out. I mean, now I could understand maybe forgetting the real name, but just 2 years after it was released and Gaga was still cool, getting the name wrong? Really?

But the reason for the most part as to why her new stuff hasn't done as well is because the public didn't really know it existed. Post-TEOG, Gaga's singles just stopped making a proper dent in the UK because her promo here pared right back and she released a country song and just didn't make herself important to us anymore. And obviously, we know Australian promo was put on the backburner. Lately, she's just become more of an American-based act and that isn't good for someone like Gaga, who's always had a large overseas following, in Europe especially.
