Yes, it was TOO early in her career she killed the hype and damaged her "brand"

I remember vaguely that it was starting to trend that if you liked Lady Gaga, during that time, you were gay (Maybe it was Born This Way?)

I mean, I wasn't phased, because *ahem* but, others weren't so forgiving? That's how I remember it anyway.

Still, that was such a nasty premise to really decide whether or not the particular music was to be listened to or not. Just saying

Yes, I also do love partying in moving houses as seen in that one Bacardi tv ad.

I don't know and I don't really care tbh.. I prefer her to sell 2-3m and being real and experimental  than not experimenting and selling 10m

It really did a lot of damage to her name. That time homosexuality wasn't yet that acceptable to the GP compared today and Gaga was channeling those illuminati images. Ppl was afraid to be called fag or illuminati so they try not to buy or listen to anything related to Gaga. Nonetheless, 'twas amazing that it still managed to score 4 top 10 hits and sold 8 million copies WW.

A mixture of her losing a lot of interest due to heavy LGBT support (which im proud of her for) and the album sounding like a compilation of thrown out tracks... Born This Way is her favorite album of mine but i can see why it didnt hit it big

It wasn't 2nd LP-material.

Now I'm not gonna trash the album, it was good, like way better than her latter effort at returning to the POP scene (a.k.a ARTPOP), but people -at the time of BTW- were still discovering Lady Gaga, her ubiquitous persona, the diva that she were in the short lived 2008-2009 THE FAME/MONSTER era, releasing some of the songs that represented the basics to what makes popular music so enjoyable;

The album by itself was good, you could enjoy listening to several tracks in-and-outside the club. What hit people the most -I guess-, is the transition between her previous sick hits, this NY girl that came from nowhere to become so popular that people put her on the top of the POP list, to embracing such a gloomy, dark POP-style with all the crummy electro sounds.

But hey, that's just my opinion

I didn't ask for a free ride, I only asked you to show me a real good time.

The imagery and single choices ruined the BTW era. After Judas bombed, Gaga was trying to play it safe with an experimental album. She was destined to fail. The whole era damaged her career unfortunately. It was a good album which was horribly managed.

Yes, yes and yes :emma:

She alienated herself, listening to her was "too gay", the production was too messy and it killed her success, ARTPOP could have been so big if BTW never happened :emma:

Still love some songs from that album, she really helped many people with the record, but it was a mistake, maybe not the theme, the song itself, but her constant preaching and the musical direction of the album... people were expecting TFM 2.0 and instead they got a weird rock-disco influenced mess with underproduced or overproduced songs :toofunny:

No offense to anyone who loves it thou, we all have our tastes, but this is just the way I see it when I try to look at it from a higher perspective

No worries, well let's see.

If that's the case, then I still do think my previous point is valid, just not as wholesome :laughga:..
The album was stellar, but I'm going to say, from personal experience as well, that the GP kind of deviated from her since the music was a bit more preachy and religiously controversial. Don't think the Madonna comparisons helped either. Some of my friends just weren't as ready for this type of music, since they expected more of the catchy dance music she released back in her Fame & Fame monster days.

i know i love the music the GP weren't ready yet if she had released btw now she would have been more better with the GP but that is my opinion :)

Glory

Even if it's her best album to date, the singles choice were pretty bad.

She still managed to get 3 hits, and The Edge Of Glory could have been the biggest one if well managed as 2nd single.

Same, I still listen to the album tracks every now and then hahaha
(HML, Scheisse, You and I, Government Hooker are my current favorites)

It'd be nice if the GP was at least a bit more appreciate of her work, but I honestly wouldn't know how accurately BTW would fare in today's sphere of music. I mean, I'm obviously a bit more favored to like Gaga's music, so I naturally wouldn't really be a reliable source for that.

But hey, at least we both still find BTW just as enjoyable as it was back then, right? ;)
