Its amazing how long it took this song to become a hit. It didn't start charting until the beginning of August of 2008 and didn't reach the Top 10 until the end of November of 2008  (in the US). But that gave it great longevity and is the reason why its a bigger hit than Poker Face

Thre's a 20 week rule on the Hot 100, so a song can chart anywhere on the Hot 100 if it's been on it for 20 weeks or less. However, once its been on the chart for over 20 weeks, it has to place in the Top 50 in order to stay on the chart.

 

This is to keep major songs from monopolizing the lower half of the chart (because they would prob stay there for a while) and make room for newer songs that are growing to enter.
