"Donald Trump says he will force Mexico to pay for a border wall as president by threatening to cut off the flow of billions of dollars in payments that immigrants send home to the country, an idea that could decimate the Mexican economy and set up an unprecedented showdown between the United States and a key diplomatic ally.

In a two-page memo to The Washington Post, Trump outlined for the first time how he would seek to force Mexico to pay for his 1,000-mile border fence, which Trump has made a cornerstone of his presidential campaign and which has been repeatedly scoffed at by current and former Mexican leaders.

The proposal would jeopardize a stream of cash that many economists say is vital for Mexico’s struggling economy. But the feasibility of Trump’s plan is unclear both legally and politically, and also would test the bounds of a president’s executive powers in seeking to pressure another country.

In the memo, Trump said he would threaten to change a rule under the USA Patriot Act antiterrorism law to cut off a portion of the funds sent to Mexico through money transfers, commonly known as remittances. The threat would be withdrawn if Mexico made “a one-time payment of $5-10 billion” to pay for the border wall, he wrote."

He basically damages Mexico's economy for it's refusal to pay for this preposterous wall...the wall won't be built, mexican economy deteriorates, less mexican jobs for mexican ppl...what does he think happens next other than more and more ppl immigrating to America? Isn't that the whole point of his campaign, to "keep them out"?

This is why I don't understand how businessmen can run for president. They got no political experience, so the stuff they say appeals to the people who likes someone that "says what they think" even though none of them understand the powers the president has, especially Trump here.

Good. Then cut off our trade with them in which they receive billions of dollars in surplus until they actually take sovereign borders as defined by the UN seriously. I mean this is a country that instead of enforcing the rule of law is turning a blind eye while poor immigrants illegally cross the boarder in order to find prosperity.

Not to mention that hundreds of thousands of Mexicans are raped and taken advantage of themselves trying to make the journey across the border with these Coyote thugs.

Mexico is already doing it's citizens a great disservice and it's time they started protecting their own damn citizens. Illegal immigration is dangerous for their own people!

It's so illogical and stupid. How is he even gonna stop people from sending money to Mexico? Banning companies like Western Union from doing transactions to Mexico? Wouldn't that also hurt American companies?

WHO THE **** CARES? Maybe we should quit worrying about their problems all the time and worry about our own. Maybe the Mexican government should do more to take care of Mexican citizens. Maybe this will force them too. 

It is time to have accountability and responsibility taken in the White House and in other countries who have piggy backed off of our willingness to do good.
