I remember watching an interview with her and apparently she was serious at the beginning :air: 

Then she quickly realized she was too high in pitch and just decided to turn it into a joke.

That sounds like a valid explanation but if you watch the video again, she sounded like she did that intentionally. The first line didn't sound serious to me. Also I thought it'd be better to fail trying than deliberately butchering the song, which many deemed disrespectful.

But again what do I know, I haven't stood in front of that many people singing for the whole country, obviously I wouldn't understand how urgent that situation was.

That's what I thought, It's sounded more like she thought everyone would find it funny but it didn't work out.

I read somewhere that they asked her to sing it but she did not want to and they made her anyway so she destroyed it on purpose :D she is brave tbh and it is hilarious :D
