Does anyone else hate promo singles?

Why do so many artists including Gaga release so many songs and/or snippets before an album release?  Does anyone else hate it?

It seems like nowadays I am hearing new songs from the same artist on a daily basis.  It's bad when an album is released and I have already heard the majority of it.

I really hope Gaga releases 1 single only before album.  No other promos or snippets please!!

Thoughts?

But we would've never had Edge of Glory as an actual single if it wasn't a promo single beforehand.

they're fun and a cute way of promoting your album even better if we get mini audio videos for them

Mister Gaga

I hate snippets, but one promo single it's not bad. It must not be the best song on the record; a cute album track or a ballad (Speechless as a promo single was perfect (no, it wasn't, but you get the idea), she could combine it in so many performances with BR (see: Ellen, AMAs, SNL).

It's almost imposible to release an album with only one song out. Even Adele released WWWY before the album release.

I'd drop the lead single, one promo single ala Speechless to combine it in some performances and the second single during the album's release week

@BobbyCampell, you better take notes, bitch.

I like them as long as too many aren't released. I like how Gaga does two (ignoring the performances) because it helps us get through the wait but I don't like when people release too many, for instance Sia literally released half of the album before the release. I don't really care for snippets though, they are kind of pointless.

I agree with maybe one other song for performances, etc.  That part makes sense.  I just don't want another ARTPOP situation where hardly anything was new on release day.  Makes it less exciting.

I have good news for you, then: we're not having another ARTPOP situation. We don't know NOTHING about LG5 :laughga: not a single word, not even a 1 second snippet :green:

I like them.

But if you don't, the option is there for you to just not listen to them until the album is released?

This right here!  Although, I don't like it when artists release too many promo singles because they can cock block an actual single that has already been released.

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.

Im fine with only one and it has to be at least 2.5 months after the lead single.

Releasing one every week for a month becomes too much, and by the time the albums out its not as satisfying

Well, snippets are pretty dumb, imo. Pop songs are already so short and their structure is based on repetition (so giving away 15 seconds, means giving away 30,45, 60 seconds, depending on how many times that part will be repeated, meaning you might be killing a third of the song before it's even released)...and if you give a nice part of the song away, you're making it more likely that ppl won't be that impressed when they hear the whole thing. If you give a bad or mediocre part of the song away, ppl won't even be bothered to listen to the whole thing when it does come out, cuz they'll be unimpressed already... so...the only thing that explains  snippets to me is fan service, which I think a star should do, but not in her own detriment...

Promotional singles, on the other hand, I see as a normal part of a promotional cycle...we live in a very "singles" oriented time and a promotional song means an opportunity to give ppl a taste of the aesthetic you've created for the current cycle/era before making huge investments on the proper promotion of a single (it's testing the waters, basically) and to give visibility to a song that would otherwise go unnoticed (since a lot of ppl tend to consume only what's offered to them as singles and not albums)...not to mention it can help to generate buzz and sell some albums...it's not my favorite thing and I detest when ppl overdo it, but I get why it exists, specially for less "stablished" artists...

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.
