The Republican presidential debate scheduled for Monday in Salt Lake City has been canceled after front runner Donald Trump and John Kasich said they would not attend.

Karen Boe, a spokeswoman for the Salt Palace Convention Center, said they were informed Wednesday morning that the event was being scrapped.

Donald Trump said Wednesday morning he would not participate because "we've had enough debates." Trump said Wednesday on Fox News that he's committed to a big speech the same night.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich's spokesman then said he won't debate without Donald Trump onstage.

The debate was scheduled a day before Utah's caucus and Arizona's primary.

You are so ridiculous lol. Who what a child? Kasich or Trump? Debates are pointless at this stage.. the primary is practically over. Donald Trump is going to be the nominee. A debate would be redundant.

He hasn't won the election yet. He's pretty much a sure winner for the Republicans but he still has to beat Hillary who has a lot of support too. Every debate counts and every chance to get your voice out matters.

Then again, he has a lot of nothing to say aside from empty promises and childish/polarizing statements so I'm not surprised.

Because he's spoiled, a bully, and doesn't know how to play with others. He's a troubled child, actually.

It's science, bitch

Sixty per cent of Republicans do not want Trump as the nominee. If he doesn't get to 1,237 delegates, then there will be an open convention. If there is an open convention, Trump is in danger of not getting the nomination.

60 percent of the republicans may not want him but he has clearly won more than 60 percent of the votes cast in the republican primaries. He's not just a "republican" candidate. He's bringing in democrats, independents, and first time voters across all demographics. The party is dead. Period. They are outnumbered, regional, and a dying breed.

I love how people still try to spin this, "The party doesn't want him!!" Oh really? Then why does he keep winning and have a 255 delegate lead over Ted Cruz? He's won the most states. More people have voted for Donald Trump than Bernie Sanders OR Hillary Clinton on the opposite side.

This isn't a spin, it's a simple fact. If a candidate doesn't reach the 1,237 delegates needed, there isn't a consensus in the party for any one candidate. It means the party is split, so they go to an open convention. There have been eight contested GOP conventions in the past. This isn't something new that has been dreamed up just for Trump.

Source for this? I can't seem to find the number of votes for the Democrats.

From Wikipedia I see Trump has gotten 7,537,086 as of last night.
