You just described exactly how I feel. I used to be a huge Madonna fan from when I was about 11 years old. I felt I wasn't a fan anymore during the Confessions era. To me it seemed the commercial success of Hung up got to her head. I feel she got too focused on quick success instead of making inventive music and video's like she did before. I love Confessions as an album, but Hard Candy put me off.

I do still respect her drive and her legacy and ROL will always be one of my all time fav albums, it's just her personality that stops me from truly caring about her. She seems to have a shield up at all times, she guards her vulnerability with her humor(that not everyone gets) , her intelligence and her bravado, but her contant effort to keep control can make her seem ingenuine and egocentric.

Exactly!!  No one can deny her legacy and her contribution to the music industry just like no one can deny she's the biggest and most arrogant biatch out there.

Ever since the 80s I always sensed she was a very cold, calculating and manipulative person who used her sex appeal to get what she wants.  It definitely worked for her.  I only hoped she'd change as she got older, but that never happened.

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.

Madonna is actually a bitch. You reap what you sow.

I don't care how legendary you are, you still shouldn't be a bitch. Especially when all you did was copy Marylin Monroe to be popular in the 80's. It's super annoying when fans say things like "well she is a bitch but Gaga wouldn't exist if it wasn't for her so it's okay."

Really? You think no woman dared to be daring before Madonna, even though Madonna didn't do a single original thing in her early career? Please stop. I have her entire discography, but my god there is no reason to be delusional about it.

Look ppl! Its denial & delusion at its finest! Jeez.... -_-

During that interview she was asked if Gaga felt like a rip-off, she clearly said NO. rewatch the interview. She even said she was flattered and would be ok to do a duet with her:

But of course when you watch the full interview they actually cut that part to make it look like Madonna was mean to her:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJuYjtp70jc

Where is that part? yeah that's right cut. The media wanted a feud and in truth there was none.

As for the born this way medley thing like I said she was making a point. Its not Madge's fault if YOU took it as an insult to Gaga.

Amen! And this is just something ppl cant get in their heads...

It's only because she's compared to Lady Gaga. There's nothing that female artist has done that she has not done to some degree. Just the way it is... all hail the Queen. :sara:

interesting

You again, with your insatiable hate crush on me and the desire to paint me in the worst light possible, even when no one else can see anything.

I was arguing two different things. The first quote was talking about the music alone. The second quote was talking about their personalities alone. Notice I didn't say "fans of both should stop buying Madonna's music," I just said they should lose a bit of respect for her, meaning they can still buy her work but have reservations about her character. I like some artists who don't have the best personalities, so with that in mind, I don't rush to defend them when it comes to their character as there isn't much I can defend.

Please understand that I find it very difficult to ignore someone who repeatedly makes a habit of getting at me, sometimes just for the reason of getting me riled up to the point where I appear to be nasty when in reality, I'm just defending myself. If I ignore, it'll likely be assumed that I believe I was in the wrong but am too embarrassed to say so. When something bad is said about me in public, I make a point of clearing my name in public so that no one thinks bad of me. It's the reason threads get somewhat derailed when people start angrily quoting me. I know it's kinda against the rules but if I'm addressed in public, I have the need to reply in public.

Apols, I was just pointing out some inconsistencies in the post as it seemed like the user in question was just blindly perpetuating the negativity towards Madonna described in the OP. I didn't realise my post would cause a personally fuelled temper tantrum that brought up things that have nothing to do with the topic or my post! Thanks for shutting down the conversation before she became too nasty :)

People have opinions, get over it. I can't believe how many of you are, sarcastically or seriously, suggesting that anyone who doesn't like her is ignorant about what she's achieved in her career, delusional at how much of an impact she's made, even stupid. Artists, especially controversial ones like Madonna, are going to have people dislike them because they simply don't appeal. Simple. I don't believe in telling people what they should like musically. We're individuals and different music appeals to different ears. And not everyone likes the same personalities either. And excuse me, no, we have no obligation to respect someone just because they provided a lot for pop music. It's hardly curing cancer, is it? This is a Gaga fan forum, therefore, we have no obligation to be nice to any artist who isn't Gaga. If we are, it's just a bonus. If you don't want Madonna bashing, go to a Madonna fan forum.

At the end of the day, Gaga fans have good reason to dislike Madonna. She insulted our girl. And if you're a fan, you should support her. If you're a fan of both, maybe lose a bit of respect for Madonna (and a lot did). Madonna lost so many of her fans after the whole fiasco. If she's a good businesswoman, she would know what a bad decision it was to bring her down when they shared so many fans. I certainly wouldn't want to go to a tour where my fave was slagged off during a segment. I'm loyal to Gaga and I automatically lose some respect for anyone who hates her for no good reason, particularly a fellow artist. Plus, I find Madonna's work for the most part, average at best, certainly no reason to gush over that much. She stole so much from other artists. Her personality is repellent. I don't have much patience for celebrities like this. And I believe no one is immune to criticism, least of all the famous, who put themselves out there to be judged.

Surely by your own logic then you have less respect for Lana del Rey than you initially had (for So Legit etc), or is this just a standard that only artists you don't stan for is expected to keep? :emma: There's also quite a huge irony in suggesting that Madonna's contributions to pop music (and by extension pop music itself) is irrelevant, yet you would base your decision on going to a concert on something so irrelevant as pop shadiness toward your 'fave'.

I did have less respect for her at the time. Her hate was understandable, though (Madonna's claim is almost baseless) and what some of us would do if we were frustrated and had access to a recording studio. But now she's clearly made up with Gaga and has been pictured with her, so I think what's happened is that they've met and Lana's changed her mind about her and obviously now, Gaga isn't as "superficial" and generic as she first appeared, so she likely gets it now. Lana didn't trash Gaga every night on stage or do interviews trashing her. Madonna did do those things and almost ended Gaga's career in the process. I don't care how many pictures she takes with Gaga afterwards and claims of being ok with her she does from here on out. Her past behaviour was beyond unacceptable. I didn't say Madonna's contributions were irrelevant, just that they're not as original as we're made to believe. And really, I don't think not wanting to see my fave dissed in concert is irrelevant. I don't see how it's any different to doing that to anyone else you admire, like family or a friend. Artists shouldn't be taking digs at each other like that. They should take a "we're all in this together" stance.

It's gotten monumentally better. I used to despise her just as intensely as everyone else did in 2011, now I basically stan for her in real life.  She's incredible and I'm glad that whole thing blew over so we can all appreciate her music and vice versa for her fans.

Well because Madonna is a hard person to understand. Like someone has said in this thread, you have to be a very smart person to understand her words and humour.

Yeah, she's bitchy at times and doesnt help much but she isnt at all "the cruelest woman" people make her out to be.

On top of that, I think the situation has improved. There used to be more hate. It's only the same 3 or 4 people here who blatantly trash her, say hateful things about her while criticizing her for being "hateful"... Contradictory much? :air:

And then they say things like "I love Gaga because she is the nicest pop star (Which I agree)... and teaches about love and respect, unlike Madonna who is a heartless bitch who deserves to be dead" :air::air: Oh My God, good to know you follow your idol's ideals! DAAAAAH!

Plus the other 2 low-porfiled haters who will always be in every Madonna thread, not insulting her but sort of bringing her down by "stating facts" and plling up hatred with the 'my opinion' card. On top of that they start liking every hateful comment towards Madonna.

But you also have the 2 or 3 Madonna stans who bring Gaga down to defend Madonna IN A GAGA FORUM... Well of course these people mentioned above, will go crazier.

It is a never ending war, that's practicly brought up by a few!!!

And then there's the newbies... well, oh well, you know about that.  not much explanation!

"YOU KNOW WHAT I HAVE TO SAY TO YOU GAGADAILY, GET A F*CKING SENSE OF HUMOR... LIGHT UP"
