Xaylan 1,326
Are there anymore artists in our generation that are like Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, etc? There isn't anyone who's an insanely creative and artistic like that? Well, besides Gaga. I need recommendations

To start I recommend Homogenic, Vespertine or Vulnicura

These artists were viewed the same way as modern artists were. I mean I go back to music videos that came out when I was in middle school and I remember people ripping them to shreds at the time but now praise and wish music was just as good as it was back then. It will literally be the same as the artists of our time 50 years from now. Plus, most of these artists are still in their early stages (minus Kanye) so just give them some time and see how they age. Why do we expect artists to be instantly classic instead of watching their career fluctuate and evolve and see where they end up. I think these artists have a charisma surrounding them that many fail to see because of the notions of the "modern artist" and "modern state of the music industry." Monster2015 1,111
There aren't many because (according to my music theory teacher) we've moved to an age in music where everything is structured. You have to have form, everything is a simple chord progression, etc. the things Queen and Bowie were doing in their music had virtuosity and they used harmonies that classical, romantic, and impressionist composers were doing at the time in their music. So to answer your question, no.
