Lady Gaga "I'm not any color, I'm just me <3"

Why is this such a big deal?

Gaga is a great artist, and we love her for what she represents, not because she's white or whatever color.

If we want a better world, we should embrace people for what they are and for what they can give to the world.

Let's focus on more important issues, like the fact that LG5 is coming. :woot:

White privilege is real. And it has nothing to do with being a blogger or sjw.

Similarly, straight privilege is also very rampant in society.

I never called you an "overly sensitive justice warrior". I used the term "moral warrior" which is different. I don't mean to say white people can never talk about race at all. Only that it's wrong to misconstrue/criticize other's on a subject that they aren't experienced in. You can speak up about race issues in a way that isn't calling people out for innocuous comments. That's not speaking up. That's petty. I quoted you as an easy example, and anything I say is meant in general (I don't want you to feel singled out).

ok i'm not trying to start a fight, I'm just genuinely asking...

if a born man comes out as a transgender woman, people don't say "you're a man, check your male privilege"

but gaga saying she's no colour is super racist? and I'm not trying to compare her saying "i'm no colour" to someone changing their whole lifestyle and transitioning, gaga's was just one lil tweet, but why is it so dramatic in this case?

i dont think your example equates to gaga's tweet.

race is significant in the social workings of society. it trivializes the experience people have who are affected by their race by acting as if it is so easy to just decide you are "colorless"

i dont think its "super racist" its more of her just not understanding white privilege.

Such a harmless tweet on her part, and this is what it comes too. Let me leave this thread.

gaga has always been ignorant about race. This isn't as bad as some other stuff if I remember right

The only time she's been ignorant about race is when she said she wanted to throw a "quincinera" on her 26th birthday or when she wore a shirt with a korean flag in tokyo japan. It's all wildly innocent mistakes though.

Most people who make a big deal out comments like this are ironically white

There's nothing dumber than a bunch of white people acting like moral warriors on behalf of a issue they've probably not experienced (racism). I would listen to what people who are part of those minorities have to say about it, but I'm not here for white people who think they can talk on their behalf. Gaga has never ignored her privileged position in life. A lot of people in this thread need to get of their high horses.

Yes. Or they are non-whites who wish that they were white, and so attack white people for taking it for granted. Especially those from Asian cultures (the land of skin lightening creams and idolisation of wealth and success).
