The OP and no one else seems to be including the last part of that quote, the part that clarifies the first sentence.

“When you’re white you don’t know what it’s like to be living in a ghetto, you don’t know what it’s like to be poor. You don’t know what it’s like to be hassled when you walk down the street, or dragged out of a car. We must be firm in making it clear that we will end institutionalized racism and reform a broken criminal justice system.

He is explaining, albeit clumsily, that there are differences in how minorities experience poverty, because of institutionalized racism and our criminal justice system.

I know telling someone to "**** off" is easy, and attempting to understand a person's intentions requires slightly more effort, but if you actually care about poverty, than you have Sanders to thank for the plight of the impoverished being a talking point in this election.

"If You're White, You Don't Know What It's Like To Be Colored" would of been more accurate.

"If You're White, You Don't Know What It's Like To Be Poor" sounds odd because there's plenty of white poor people here in Arizona. And i don't think they should be left out because it just wouldn't be right.

As shady and flip floppy as I think Hilary is, I feel like she would make a better president.

When I see the two of them together I think they would actually make a really good team. They balance each other out well, are alike enough to be on the same page, and where one falters the other tends to excel. 

And really, if Hillary could be in charge of the Department of Education that'd be freaking WONDERFUL. Considering her dedication to children throughout her career and her knowledge of the education system, it'd be a perfect fit for her.

When Bernie stereotypes an entire group of people, it's done to illustrate what life is like for them in an attempt to show them his support. 

When Trump makes a period joke, he's being immature. When Trump makes statements about people of other races, he's not doing so in a method of support or understanding. 

Obviously very different. One of these men actually has this thing us caring people call "respect" and "compassion."

He already responded tonight to it at the Fox News Democratic Town Hall. Don't be distracted by the lone sentence. Watch the debates and the town halls in their entirety. It's a better use of time than focusing on the "selected sentence" that becomes the focus. Notice that none of the real substance is being discussed? Unfortunate.

The issue isn't that it wasn't said, because it was. (I watch all the debates and town halls and cringed at that moment myself). The issue is that it's clouding the real conversations. His answer is clarified in the above video at around 3:30. #feelthebern

I'm 100000000% pro bernie, but I can't stand inaccurate memes like this. Bernie completely owned his statement and clarified it. Of course he didn't mean it the way it came out, but its silly in the era of youtube to pretend it wasn't said or that Fox was just making it up. Accuracy and honesty always prevails, and it will prevail for him. His character is bigger than one small word mistake that is obviously contrary to his entire world-view.
