Those two things don't quiiiite correlate though. There are dozens of reasons why someone might dislike Gaga, or her music in particular, that would lead to them not buying her albums. It's not an attack on the gays if they don't like her music

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

I don't think Gaga's career = to GP's positive view of gays.
This is like a Sam Smith claim/belief. He won the Oscars meaning the whole world are more accepting of gays :toofunny:.

I love this thread though.:gaycat: It's like pointing game no, I'm not straight, he is. No, not me the other one. What's so wrong with being a straight guy and liking Gaga? Maybe they think she's hot and fu*kable.

she was overexposed.

and it wasn't gp viewing gays. It was more like her weird antics and outfits not making sense. Like people started thinking why does she try so hard to be different? Why is it like this, attention? Why?

Which carried on into ARTPOP, and it overshadows all her talent.

EDIT: I am straight i like Gaga bc good singles and my sisters listened to her. I think she also stands for good things and she's talented.

Lmfao idk why I found this thread hilarious. I don't think so. I haven't seen homosexuality as that big of an issue for a long time.

It still is :koons: the majority is just on the progressive and accepting side now. Homophobia and ignorance still run rampant, though.

OT: Gaga's success comes from nothing but her talent and brains. Even though Born This Way was, more or less, a gay pride track, the lyrics weren't "no matter gay, gay, or gay, gay, gay, gay, gay, gay, or gay..." they included many different minorities and majorities so everyone would be included and everyone could draw a source of pride from it as long as they didn't disagree with others doing the same.

And I feel that's one of the most forgotten things about BTW. Such an amazing empowerment album. I applaud Gaga just about daily for taking advantage of her fame to release an album like that. She supported immigrants, gays, lesbians, trans, women, strength, happiness, ugh. Thinking about it now, I dare to say the album is underrated.

Lol u r right, its just that since its not the average fan its seen as, hipster hahahaha. But umm, if I may ask, and u can totally slap me for my ignorance, what do u like of gaga (from like ur straight viewpoint)

btw this is so politically incorrect and im ashamed hahaha

I guess I'm a very different human being. When I first discovered Gaga, I was very young so I guess I didn't have much thoughts on what I was diving into. I researched her more & more & was struck by how talented she is. She's really the hardest working pop star nowadays. That's a great quality to follow. I appreciate her for that & I like her music too. Why? Cause I'm just naturally attracted to it. It's addicting. If you like a song you get addicted. Not to mention she's hot af. And I've always loved her artistry and how she takes risks. I feel like I could relate to it. Part of the reason I think many straight males don't listen to female pop stars is because they just don't take the time to sit down and listen. They probably just blow them off once they figure out she is a female. It's not the case for all though, my Dad brought Sia's new album & he's as straight as it gets. Believe it or not, my basketball coach downloaded some Katy Perry songs and plays it. I still have my "straight" music I listen to if that's the correct stereotype. I enjoy Eminem & Jay Z allot. So to sum it up, what really has made me respect Gaga as an artist is my open mindedness & just my instinctive attraction to herself + her music.

Literally all of her work is underrated. Born This Way for being all inclusive and forward thinking, believing in a more tolerant and fair world, ARTPOP for exploring the human psyche and soul, Fame Monster for exploring the dark corners of our minds and relationships...The Fame for it's endless bops and occasional insightful lyric :music:

Yet it was gay people themselves who started to turn against Gaga during BTW. Particularly the closeted ones. They didn't want to hear the message of Born This Way and switched off. But I think gay people are now starting to love Gaga again but only because straight people are loving her again. It's the complete opposite effect of 2008-2009:

2008-2010: Gays love Gaga. Straights follow.

2011-2012: Closeted gays turn their back on Gaga. They condemn her for highlighting issues they prefer not to be spoken about in public.

2013-2014: The lowest period of Gaga popularity. Out gays stop loving Gaga. Straights also follow.

2015-2016: Straights love Gaga. Gays follow. Closeted gays also love Gaga again because everyone else does.

Totally agree. I really wish people would stop thinking of Gaga as some evil person. She's one of the most motivated artists I've ever seen in her attempt to making this world a better one. All she stands for is love, happiness, freedom, and artistic freedom. Gaga is extraordinary in all of her work. I wish everyone could see that

Lmfao why arguing? This is why I try not be here so often. Allot of people actually critique me for being straight. I know myself better than anyone else so I should know I'm straight.

Like, this x 1,000,000

I couldn't have said it better. I, being a mostly straight female :hor: , don't really know firsthand the current cultural atmosphere towards gays, etc. But in many areas (at least in the US), it seems that people generally are more accepting.

I love that Gaga promotes love and acceptance. I don't really like how many people think of Gaga as having only a LGBT+ fan base. I think, unfortunately, that it closes off some less accepting people to her music. At a time, it was "cool" to hate Gaga. I hated that. I always proclaimed my love for her anyway, telling people that I am a super fan and visit forums about her everyday. I defend her, try to explain the meaning of the meat dress, and try to explain what a talent and a good soul she is whenever I get the chance.

I don't believe there is a 100% correlation between Gaga's success and people's tolerance, but I do think it has some merit, since so many people think of her as a "gay act." I hope that since she has reformed her image and displayed her talent so much over the last year, that some of those associations will be less prominant, and that people will be more interested in her music. Then, by opening themselves to her message, can in turn BE more tolerant of all types of people.

I love Gaga. I believe in her talent and I believe in acceptance and equality. Everyone should feel safe and free to be their true selves.

Only gays loving Gaga is one of the biggest stereotypes ever. I know straight males who listen to Gaga including myself...

But most Gaga fans are gay.. when someone says something like this they clearly dont mean all.

Fixed. The casual listener/fan is all inclusive.
