Yeah this wasn't a great year in kpop for me personally. I went to my 2024 playlist to put a top 10 together and I only have 11 kpop songs on it :laughga: I'll post mine soon though

JPop wasn't much better - if it wasn't for Utada's greatest hits album I think I'd only have like 7 JPop songs that I liked this year

I thought this year had some great K-Pop releases but it felt like it kinda tapered off at the end? The last quarter or so wasn't very memorable, it was a bit of a frontloaded year.

And what stood out in J-Pop to me this year was mostly f5ve popping off (and what seems like a growing trend of J-Pop groups that seem more oriented towards an overseas audience like f5ve and XG), and discovering iScream and Tommy february6's music. But in regards to my pre-2024 faves, it wasn't a super interesting year.

This song randomly came into my head today. The 2014-2015 kpop era is so nostalgic for me

Well if you’re gonna do a mid-tempo bop in kpop at this point you betta come out with a banger and this is really well done.

Although debuting a 14 year old…. A damn mess

me loveeee

lowkey at first i was a bit confused whether i liked it or not. cuz i was expecting powerhouse vocals or crazy vocals cuz it is a debut and u wanna stand out. cuz after first listen i felt like no memorable parts. but i liked this approach, take a concept thats popular rn but making it urs. and then it grew on me. the choreo fire too.

This would be so c*nty if it wasn’t for the fact that they’re working with producer who got them into the lawsuit mess in the first place :triggered:

So all of that is legal stuff that will be resolved eventually, but one of the more interesting reports that emerged was about how the Ablume members and family were “gaslit” by SIAHN and Warner Music Korea. It says with the backing of Warner, SIAHN stoked fear in the parents that ATTRAKT had no plans for the group, that he instilled fear of debt to the company in them, explained how he had plans for the group stopped by lack of funding from ATTRAKT, and told them that he alone was responsible for their success.

That was last September, but it seems most relevant now after it was reported that SIAHN has signed a one-year production deal with Ablume’s company MASSIVE E&C to work with the girls again.
