At least they changed up the amount of members this time, which makes for a different dynamic, but yeah, it's def lackluster. Boombayah and Whistle were both had a thunderous, record-breaking reception, while batter up... ...crickets. And something about the overall production value feels a bit cheap for YG standards, both musically and visually. In the MV's case I think it's the camerawork and the way it's overtly lit. Actually I think "kpop girl groups" was #1 and then "kpop" was 2 or 3 Chanmina, Wednesday Campanella, and Youha were my #2, #3, and #5 top artists, respectively. My top song was Bvndit's "Don't Mess With Me." I was surprised I only listened to it 52 times, I thought I listened to it every day. Youha's "Abittipsy" was #5, I think that song has been in my top 5 since it came out in 2021. Weirdly it said I was in the top 1% of Ava Max listeners. No k-pop artists in my top 5 most listened to artists for the first time since I got into k-pop... In terms of songs, the highest positions are: #5 XG - Shooting star (does this even count?) #9 Kai - Rover #11 NCT 127 - Skyscraper (their besides always outstream their singles for me) #26 GOT the beat - Stamp on It #32 IVE - I AM #61 NewJeans - Zero (not their Coca Cola ad outstreaming their singles..) I wonder if I'm just losing interest in kpop altogether or if the releases just weren't my thing this year... the last part u said i agree. like compared to last year releases lotta the groups were not as good imo like look at this: Group 2022 VS 2023 NJ hype boy/attention/ditto vs super shy Le sserafim antifragile vs unforgiven StayC RUN2U vs teddy bear IVE love dive/after like vs i am/baddie/off the record/etc NMIXX OO vs party oclock (idk the name) TWICE pop/talk that talk vs jihyo solo/set me free RV feel my rhythm vs chill kill FROMIS_9 DM vs me now etc u get the point... i would pick all their 2022 releases over the 2023 ones. the only group i feel like had better releases this year compared to last was maybe aespa. i really liked my world a lot. i did like a couple stuff tho like shooting stars, perfume, etc but not that much.
