Gaga's activism

It's so good to have a pop star with the talent and platform she has willing to talk about issues that are important.  Whether it's LGBT issues from the BTW campaign, anti-bullying and the issues taking on by the BTW Foundation, or Sexual Assault with TIHTY,  Gaga is becoming known not only for her talent but also her desire to make the world a better place, I don't think there is another pop star associated as much with various issues as Gaga is at the moment.  She shows that she has heart and isn't just in it for the money.

We've had complaints through the years from parts of the fanbase that her activism has caused her to lose connection with the GP, and that she should have kept it under wraps for the sake of her career.   This to me is short sighted thinking.   The world doesn't need yet another multimillion selling pop star with nothing to say.   The world needs people that stand up for what's important, whether it is the correct marketing move for their career or not.   Very early in her career during TF era there was some interview where Gaga was playing the dumb pop star role where she basically said that she didn't care about politics or issues and that she just wanted to have fun and party.  I'm so glad that version of Gaga is long gone, that attitude at the time is part of what kept me from taking her seriously for a long time.

Kudos to Gaga for not only being a great artist, but a caring humanitarian as well.  We can all look to her as an example.

She is so inspiring she doesn't do anything unless she is passionate about it she is passionate about music acting dancing and standing up for people and speaking out against wrong doings. I know some other pop stars are activists too but gaga truly believes in what she is saying all of the time and is so inspiring from what she says and the way she says it.

So true, + the fact that she doesn't jump in whatever issue that is trending at the moment. She fights for what she believes and she never stops doing so.

True...
It is sad that it really does alienate a part of the audience, though...

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

What is interesting is years ago Pop Stars were often looked down upon for being "mindless" and uninformed on social issues. They were criticized for making millions but not "contributing" to society. With Gaga we have a Pop Star that delivers or has delivered on all fronts regarding what a "Pop Star" is, bringing back the fascination and admiration, but one that also goes against the negative criticisms pop stars often received- that they lack real talent (Gaga does not), that they are stupid (Gaga is not), and that they don't care about actual world problems (Gaga does care).

And yet she is still attacked by people accusing her of ALL those things. It kinda proves to me that whenever somebody complains about how terrible all female pop stars are, they are not actually complaining about how terrible they are. It's just plain misogyny masquered so it's more socially acceptable and doesn't come with a negative connotation or backlash. Because which average middle-aged white dude would not agree to a blanket statement like "This is not actual music. John Lennon/Bruce Springsteen/Bob Dylan/David Bowie/Frank Zappa is the real deal."

Previously I would have said it's mostly due to the fact that people just don't see artistic merit in Pop music, but the reality is male pop artists don't receive the same backlash that female pop artists do. Perhaps it's because female artists tend to be more flamboyant, showy, etc., therefore giving more opportunity to critique them. I mean, even female artists that receive the least amount of criticism are the ones who tend to just make music, keep to themselves, and put on simple performances (Lorde and Adele come to mind).

If you stand out, you get hammered down. And if you stand out in the Pop world, you're already at a disadvantage when it comes to how people view you.

SEVDALIZA

She's so precious, bless her.

Artists like Gaga and Demi, who go out of their way to spread positvity and awareness should be appreciated on a whole different level.

I think women have to stand out a lot more in pop music than men because otherwise they would not be taken seriously or glanced over. It's like for the same recognition women have to put in 5 times the effort of a man. Justin Timberlake is out here being seen as the new King of Pop, having done like 4 albums with minimal promotion, minimal touring, large pauses, minimal sound evolution, and not even a quarter of Gaga's showmanship.

Agreed. She's such an inspiring woman. It's amazing to see that she's using her fame to do some good in the world.
