I'm not sure if LG5 is able to sell as well as 1989 but I'm quite sure Gaga will be more respected as an artist later.

This!

She is working hard to become a jack-of-all-trades. She is capable of many things, and she excels at pretty much all of them.

A better question: in terms of vocal ability, who out there is more versatile? Anyone?

her and rihanna, for sure.

both of them can pull of any look and any genre.

(gaga hasn't done dancehall or real trap and rihanna hasn't done jazz- both have tried rock, rnb, pop, edm, etc)

The difference is, Gaga actually writes her own stuff and plays instruments. Rihanna doesn't write the majority of her own stuff (and when she does, she's given a whole host of co-writers to help) and her changes in direction are all fed to her. Her attempts at rock were deemed laughable by real rock fans whereas Gaga has been praised by rock fans. Rihanna's attempts at EDM didn't include any of her involvement (We Found Love and Where Have You Been were completely written and produced by Calvin Harris and Right Now is obviously Guetta's doing for the most part). She doesn't play any instruments. Being a versatile artist means that you can actually create your own material and be good at it. You're hardly versatile if your only versatile material is the stuff that you got lots of help with. If you locked Rihanna in a room with paper, pen and instruments, you'd get very little output. If you did the same with Gaga, you'd get a masterpiece. That's the difference.

Prince, Paul McCartney, and David Bowie have covered more ground musically (off the top of my head). Performance-wise? She's up there.

She's not the greatest artist or the most versatile but she's the best at tricking you into thinking she is just that. She's very sneaky and full of tricks

If Gaga isn't an icon now.....she def will be.  She is one of the most talented and versatile artists ever.  As far as all time, she will have to compete with people like Sammy Davis Jr. and Judy Garland.  Sammy played trumpet, drums, piano and vibraphone.  He was an accomplished mime and comedian.  He could DANCE like almost nobody else.  He did Broadway, movies and tv.  I would say Gaga's range of genres is more diverse though.

This is tough. I want to say yes, but my immediate thought is no.. ?? Which then poses the question, if not Gaga, who?

There are so many artists. Especially when you say "of all time." Now, if you consider that many artists haven't tried multiple genres, yet they COULD if they tried to, that makes it hard, because you have to try to imagine each artist performing different styles.

I asked my boyfriend... He said Gaga made sense, but I told him to think of other people. He said maybe Ray Charles, Darius Rucker (Hootie), Sheryl Crowe, Amy Lee from Evanescence.

What do you think of that!?

I am going to think about this for a while. I'll get back to you.

P.S. what about Carole King??

Sneaky? Like when shes clearly pushing her vocals to the limit and shes struggling and she stops to take breaks? :air:

But she conviniently turns it emotional on those parts every time and makes it seem like thats how its suppostu be but really she needs to rest her vocal cords for a few seconds? :rip:
