lego 44,165
The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted a charge of child cruelty at the Old Bailey on January 12. She was sentenced to a two year supervision order, a year of therapy and 200 hours of unpaid work at Isleworth Crown Court on Monday. She was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15. Police were called by paramedics from London Ambulance Service to a home in Hayes on August 10 last year, after a newborn baby boy was found injured. He was taken to a west London hospital and was found to have sustained injuries to his throat, which police said were believed to have been caused by a chemical. The baby was later discharged but his mother was arrested two days later on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. Detective Constable Philip Tibbles, from the Metropolitan Police Service's Sexual Offences Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, said: “This is a tragic case involving a young woman and her child, which will stay with her for the rest of her life." http://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/teenage-mum-who-poured-bleach-in-newborns-mouth-spared-jail-a3193156.html FreePalestine

Shadowcrest 2,487
None of you know the situation, could've been a rape baby; or she could've just been crazy. It's a horrible situation but don't pretend like it's something that happens all the time either.

There are so many teen moms in different situations and they don't try to harm their kids, but ask for help. It's annoying how someone who literally attempted murder gets more sympathy than the victim. FreePalestine

You (just like the rest of us) know nothing about the attempted murderer's mental state or how this baby came to be. Just saying something legal isn't an argument. I never said I didn't have sympathy for the child, take SEVERAL seats.

No, you went straight to defend this young woman's action and made up theories and excuses, there was zero expression of sympathy for the baby in your comment. The first thing you thought of is not to judge an attempted murderer. When some idiots abuse animals or throw kittens to drown, there is (rightfully) outrage and demand for justice/punishment. But when similar is done to a human being, an innocent child, the reaction is "oh maybe it's rape baby"...so that makes it all ok? It's not that baby's fault. No matter what it is. And you can get rid of that stupid lingo, this is not a thread about stan wars. FreePalestine

The world isn't as black and white like in Disney movies. Perpetrators are human and flawed like everyone. They are simply the ones who make stupid decisions. Unless she's a psychopath, she's going to have to live with this with the rest of her life. I feel sorry for this child though... sigh... Edited just now by LebaneseDude. The thing is, the mother is only a teenager. She's basically a child herself. She probably doesn't fully understand that her actions can have mortal consequences. Don't cast her as an Evil Queen. Of course I wouldn't expect anything else from many people on this site. What are you like 15? You probably think black and white too. Edited just now by LebaneseDude. No, just now when I saw your cringeworthy comment. I think people who excuse attempting murderers need to get checked. 17 is not 13, her age is very close to 18, she's almost an adult in the eyes of the law. And many 16 or 17 years olds were tried as adults, depending on severity of the crime. Like I said, "Abortion is legal in the UK up to 24 weeks under the Abortion Act 1967. However, if there is a substantial risk to the woman's life or foetal abnormalities, there is no time limit. There is also no age limit for treatment." If the baby was unwanted, there was possibility of abortion. FreePalestine

I'm allowed to have my opinion, and you're allowed to get angry at people for not agreeing with you. I can speak how I want to, such an angry little person. 2007 5,291
I can't at some of you defending her, even if it was a "rape" baby or a baby she didn't want...it's not a Barbie doll, it's a living creature. She could've aborted the baby or put it for adoption if she couldn't handle it, only if it was a rape baby or else she should deal with the consequences of her own actions. Harming it after it's been delivered is a crime.

If the baby was unwanted, there was possibility of abortion. Ok sit down. The only person that needs to get checked is you given that all you have done is play police as opposed to a regular human being who can think for himself outside the context of law. First of all, given that she's 17, she does not have the power to get an abortion without parental approval. It's very likely that her (and the father's) parents did not allow her to do so. Second of all, 17 year olds are still children who make incredibly stupid decisions because they are very inexperienced in life. The "18 year" rule is only there for legal purposes too. Most people don't mature until they're in 20's when they become independent from their families. Your stance is quite hilarious. You're literally treating this child (yes even legally given that you want to go that route) as a psychopathic murderer or something when you literally know nothing about her. God... talk about a hypocrite. Edited just now by LebaneseDude.
