Apple's patent victory against Samsung overturned

Samsung has finally scored a win in its long-running patent battle with Apple.

A federal appeals court on Friday overturned a 2014 verdict that slapped the South Korean tech giant with nearly $120 million in damages for violating Apple’s patents on some iPhone features.

The ruling, from The U.S. Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, essentially finds that the iPhone features at issue in the case were obvious ones that cannot be protected as intellectual property. As a result, Samsung will not be forced to alter any future designs of its devices.

The ruling also upholds an earlier $158,400 judgement against Apple for infringing one of Samsung’s patents.

Apple and Samsung have been locked in a pitched battle over smartphone and tablet patents for years. Last December Samsung paid Apple more than $548 million for infringing the patents and designs of the iPhone, a judgement Samsung has appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court.

I don't follow these tech wars nor will I ever understand how people can get so damn worked up about phones, cause I've seen some fights that are more uglier than twitter stans fighting over whose fave is better. But it's obvious that Apple started the whole smart phone thing so I guess they're right?

Ugh... I dislike Samsung. They only make bad copies of things that already exist, load them with buggy features that you'll never need, and then advertise them as the second coming of Jesus.

I know that Apple have never actually invented anything. But they have re-invented our lives. They learn from others' failure, take what's wrong and improve it. Personal computers as we know them today probably wouldn't exist without Apple. The same goes for tablets and smartphones, but also the internet.

Unlike Samsung, they care about product design, user experience, software security and stability. And they aren't afraid to make mistakes in order to perfect something. They will take their time, and start over until it's just right.

You need to be up to date so you won't embarass yourself and sounds like apple sheep cos samsung dont do bloatware anymore since S6 last year 

Disliking a brand is alright but make yourself educated and up to date on the issues what makes you dislike them.

And the upcoming S7 is close to perfection. It's the S6 with a better battery/performance, added waterproof protection, and an SD card slot (finally). Also, the screen is leagues better than any iPhone.

I totally agree, omg, it will be their best yet tbh!! So happy they bring back expandable memory slot and waterproof coating again!!

I am waiting for the unlocked ones, though need to wait longer since it seems only the one comes with carriers got release dates announced.

So that's the only thing you can say against my post? After all those years they stopped shipping bloatware? You obviously can't deny the fact that Apple focuses on building a strong relationship with their customers, while Samsung just throws up devices to make money. But it's okay. What about slow software updates though? Getting the new features isn't really as important as fixing vulnerabilities. When you have millions of active users that are in risk, you don't wait months to fix them. And although this has improved too over the last few months, remember, "Trust is like a broken mirror, you can't fix it if it's broken".

Also, there's a difference between making things sound cool, and actually making them useful and working.

Basically, the only reason they're doing this is because they know they can't be better than Apple, so they try to get closer by copying their style.
