I think Katy's tweet could be interpreted two different ways... The first one being that literally, it's cheap for popstars to use "blasphemy" as entertainment, period. But that seems very unlikely, as she herself has worn cross necklaces with deep cleavage on display and her entire bio when she started out stated that she was "the preacher's daughter turned naughty." Her first single talked about kissing girls for Christ sake (pun intended). She was shooting cream from her breasts at the time, it's not like she was that innocent of a popstar either. The second way to look at her tweet is that she found it cheap from Gaga to do Alejandro in the blatant "copy paste" way she obviously lifted from Madonna's overall visuals. People who STILL don't see Alejandro is straight-up Madonna are insane. And sure, Madonna has "borrowed", "paid tribute", "copied" or whatever you'd like to call it from loads of other artists/public figures but they pretty much were all dead at the time of the "tribute". The only time to my knowledge, as a longtime M fan, Madonna has "borrowed" from someone while they were still alive is during Confessions. She took Farrah Fawcett's disco hair and John Travolta's moves from Saturday Night Fever. But she said that in every interview asking about her look, it wasn't hidden at all. Gaga's problem with the Alejandro thing is that she took it all, adapted it to suit herself and in the process forgot to mention where the idea stemmed from. I'm going to list it all again just for clarity to anyone reading this thread: - Before Alejandro, Steven Klein (the director of Alejandro fro those that don't know) had never done music videos except for tons of Madonna videos/backdrops/shoots. Gaga's camp asked Klein to do the video, even though he is an editorial photographer and moving image artist, not a video director like Joseph Kahn. So them (and Gaga) wanting HIM, someone with only Madonna on his resume, let's you know they're looking for a Madonna vibe straight away. - The song itself strongly reminds of that whole Latin/Spanish vibe Madonna is known to put in her work from time to time. Madonna always has a "Lation section" in her tours and has always stated "I think I was Latin in another life." The song is also obviously inspired by Ace of Base. - The Black & White scene in Alejandro is an obvious tribute to Madonna's Vogue video. Gaga's posing in the quick shots, while the gay men are strutting fiercely next to her. She's wearing a pantsuit like Madonna did in Vogue and of course the black and white filter itself, since Vogue was so famously done in black and white. Madonna's Vogue isn't completely "original" either, it's imagery is very much inspired by famous photographer Horst P. Horst, who used to do a lot of work for Vogue, the magazine, decades ago. At the time, Horst was still alive but ill and his work featured the classic Hollywood actresses she raps about in the songs breakdown. And like Madonna often does, there's some Marilyn in Vogue. Who was already, you guessed it, dead. - The rosary beads and the crosses combined with the fire in Alejandro is straight-up lifted from Madonna's Like A Prayer. There's no way to get around that. Madonna was the first to do that and she got a lot of flack for it at the time. - The gun bra is also an obvious Madonna reference. Gaga has studied Madonna, she said it herself in 2008 and 2009, so she knew what she was doing. Madonna and Jean Paul Gaultier famously did the cone bra's for herself and her dancers during the 1990 Blond Ambition Tour. When Gaga used the fire bra in 2009 for the MM Awards, Perez (who was on Team Gaga at the time) said hours before the performance something to the effect of "Madonna is going to be so jealous after Gaga's performance. She's going to elevate tonight." I'm paraphrasing but it was something to that effect. She was going to take Madonna's imagery and "elevate it". She did, but she never really gave the credit. And then Born This Way came. And that's basically where the entire Madonna/Gaga feud stems from because they had met several times before, Madonna attended The Fame Ball Tour, when many of y'all on here didn't even know who Gaga was at the time and Gaga attended Madonna's Sticky & Sweet tour. They also partied in London and New York together for Madonna's manager's birthday and another record executives birthday. Many people later told press they were friendly and talking to each other for quite some time at both parties. Madonna took offence because Gaga could've at least give credit where credit was due. Madonna's references have always been obvious and she's always given the credit when asked about inspiration for her visuals. Gaga rarely does that, although she's admitted her and the Haus keep a huge databank of video stills, photographs and other references that she draws influence from 24/7. And I guess Katy (who was endorsed by Madonna before I Kissed A Girl even came out) took offence. It's an old trick to combine the religious theme with sex in pop music and if you're going to do it, you might as well state where you got it from... Fish 6,087
Oh please... Gaga is the most interesting thing to happen to pop music in the 21st century. Is she heavily inspired by Madonna? Yes. Is she unique and authentic in her own way? Absolutely. Is Katy a bitch? Yes Does Madonna think every pop girl derive from her saint uterus? Yes

Miley 5,006
Katy is.. Katy. She follows her own stream, and things are OK when it suits her. I used to adore her a lot before I saw her on the Prismatic World Tour. After that day I'd never see her the same. She just have zero integretity, and is not a musician. She is a famous pop name that performs hits. That's all. I would neither call her a musician, nor an artist. And after that day I realized that chartposition don't say a damn about the artist, just about the song. I still bop to her songs, but this is my honest opinion. Bless Gagz and the gays. ♡

I went to two California Dreams shows and was in the very front of the pit for Prismatic (Katy touched my hand!) At the first California Dreams show in San Jose she would talk to the audience which is great. But she got a little awkward when she realized there were lots of Latinos in San Jose and she was talking about how she had her "chola" days and she even mimicked a Mexican accent. I was a little turned off by this. It's one thing to relate to your audience, but to sort of make fun of an ethnic group was a little embarrassing for me. Her singing was okay I guess, and she danced a bit. Regardless, I still went to see her the next few times she came. It's nothing like going to a Gaga show tho

Not in the sense that she felt uncomfortable there were lots of Latinos there. She just started to ramble on and embarrass herself acting like a chola and stuff. I felt as if she started a joke, then rambled too long with it and couldn't stop. Poor ha. In my head I'm like "how were you a 'chola' if you were a Christian music singer at the age you claim you were a chola?"

She performed I think Circle the Drain with the ropes and her dancers using ropes on her. It was pretty impressive but no one was cheering her on. Even after the song it was a moderate clap. I was shouting "oh come on, louder than that! The girl did a good job!" Then for Prismatic, I was in the pit at the very tip of it. There was maybe one other guy who was thrilled to be there. Everyone else was just standing around. And there were lots of tweens with their parents just standing. I'm just so used to Gaga shows where its pandemonium on the floor. I was in the pit for TBTWB and the crowd would always move and run to wherever Gaga was going.
Chelseaaaaaa 1,453
It was a subtweet toward Gaga, far as I know. That's what I always heard. Even my father said that and he doesn't like Gaga.

Gaga tours always look so energetic, people are jumping and screaming, putting up their paws, etc. I haven't been to any tours so I'm not sure what it's like but I've seen videos. Gaga tours look like so much fun. Lady Gaga | Shakira
