"Imperial Oil LTD" has invented technology that helps make Canada's oil sands more economical and more environmentally friendly

This new technology includes adding carbon and solvents underground which reduces energy and CO2 emissions created in trying to extract each barrel of oil

The tests also show a 30% increase in recovery rates which has potential to increase Canadas recoverable oil reserves from 175 Billion barrels to 227 Billion Barrels

It also reduces costs by about 1/3 which would help Canada compete with US Shale. It may still be years before the new methods and technolog became widely available to all Canadian Companies.

Sounds like fracking?

U dont frack sand and dirt

but they use a method called "in-situ" in areas where oil sands are too deep to mine and it does resemble fracking to some extent... But what they inject and how they inject it is different from fracking rock in shale formations.

This is basically advances and changes to technology that already existed but now new method is much more efficient
