Bojana 568
Nice tweet from The Hunting Ground: The Hunting Ground @thehuntinground 9h9 hours ago We didn't win a statue, but the victory tonight was clear. @ladygaga and these brave women and men are our heroes. bryantbubbly 7
Can we not be happy for Sam? It's not his fault he won. I thought Diane and Gaga deserved it the most too, but there is nothing we can do about the result. This is also why you don't see gay male artists topping many charts. For some reason unbeknownst to me, the gay community (and little monsters) will take any chance to rip a gay celebrity to shreds. At least he recognized that Gaga was incredible and the LGBT+ community. Honestly Gaga won the show tonight, and nobody can deny that. And for me, that's the most important part. The message of the song was brought to millions of people. Know how to use your standom positively.

danceinthedark1206 25
Okay. I NEVER post online, I am an enormous Gaga fan but just not active on message boards. But I am SO sad/ angry that I feel compelled to write! The NYT's running commentary on the Oscars (below, read to last comment) definitely agrees: that Sam Smith song was AWFUL!! Poor Gaga "Melena Ryzik Vice President Biden helped write the original Violence Against Women Act. And the people who stood surrounding Lady Gaga are apparently real-life survivors of sexual assault. Who would’ve predicted, a few months ago, that the most political, socially powerful moments of Oscar night would belong to Vice President Joe Biden and his “good friend” Lady Gaga? Wesley Morris I know. He just gives a rousingly Bidenesque speech in support of justice for sexual assault survivors then throws it to Lady Gaga who gives a rousingly Gagaesque performance of “Til It Happens to You.” It’s been some month for her as a paragon of emotionalism. At the end, she clutches hands with the survivors who surround her big white, Elton John machine and the room stands and applauds. Another bowl of tears from me. Melena Ryzik Even though she didn’t win, she can take some solace in the fact that she had one of the show’s few indelible moments. Wesley Morris No, she didn’t! That perfectly flavorless, embarrassingly deployed Sam Smith song did. And while he was at it, he tried to take credit for being the first openly gay winner. Nice try! But he did dedicate it to the L.G.B.T. community. Which was pretty Gaga of him."

How very brave of him, it must be so hard to be a rich white cisgender gay man in post-Prop 8 California I'm so sick of celebrities claiming the mantle of LGBT rights anyway, like where were you when we really needed you. Compare that to the people who stood beside Lady Gaga silently but LOUDLY proclaiming that they are survivors of sexual assault. Now that's bravery. When you step outside the fanbase mode you realize the song was worth of an Oscar that's why he won and we will remain stressed Except that Writings On The Wall and Spectre were received with mixed reviews by critics while Til It Happens To You and The Hunting Ground received critical acclaim
