Ted Cruz equates gluten-free meals to political correctness

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz looked to gain the support of military voters in South Carolina on Tuesday, promising to build a robust military if elected and pledged not to provide gluten-free military meals, which he equated with a culture of political correctness.

“That’s why the last thing any commander should need to worry about is the grades he is getting from some plush-bottomed Pentagon bureaucrat for political correctness or social experiments—or providing gluten-free MREs,” Cruz said, using the shorthand term for Meal, Ready-to-Eat, CNN reported.

About 1% of Americans have celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder that makes a person intolerant to gluten, according to the Celiac Disease Foundation. A spokesman for the Department of Defense said the provision of gluten-free meals differs based on the military branch.

But he was referring to the military. He does not want to provide gluten free MRE's because he thinks it's "PC"... there are literally people who are intolerant to gluten. It's an autoimmune DISEASE.

Both of you have points.

The gluten free thing has been blown out of proportion, yes, but it is a fad blowing over.

However, there are some who are gluten intolerant and some of those people are in the various branches of the US army.

Best thing to do? Provide gluten free meals to those who actually need them, not those who believe they'll lose weight. Like have them bring proof, such as a doctor's note or something when they enlist.

I can't wait till November where all this **** ends and I decide whether or not I move to England.

Im tired of things being PC too. But lactose intolerant means your body doesn't produce enough lactose to deal with incoming dairy and so your body can't handle it. It's not something you choose to be lol
